Agenda for Governor Akume. By Aonduna Tondu

(GAMJI)

Anti-Obasanjo resentment is real. It is intense. It speaks to the profound feeling of hurt felt by the average Tiv man or woman  who has come to perceive the 2001 massacres of defenseless villagers as well as the wanton destruction of their communities as an attack on our collective identity. Another Way to Serve Nigeria. By Jibo Nura

(GAMJI)

It is also a well-known fact that Buhari was never and is still not a "power monger". And I am sure the writer believes that power is given by God. Therefore, it sounds ridiculous to say that if he lose the tribunal the North still need his service rather than laying down his life pursuing the April 19th election. Details

Political Assassinations: Annihilating Our best and Our Future. By Sabella Abidde

Growing up in Nigeria was a joy. Really, it was. I don't ever recall a time when life wasn't jolly. Election Malpractices: Are Courts A Solution? By Mamman Lawal Yusufari

(GAMJI)

In the Kano High Court, you rarely miss a face. It is of a man whose business seems court-going only. Between Babangida and Buhari, Where Lies Statesmanship? By Umar Bello

(GAMJI)

Nothing compares Babangida to Buhari other than four simple facts, that they are all Moslems and from the Northern part of the country and that they were all Generals in the Nigerian army and former heads of state. Other than these facts they are as similar as a maze and a thoroughfare or as similar as a horizontal line and an arc. Details

Has the Age of Enlightenment Finally Come to Nigeria? By Chukwuemeka Uche Onuora

(GAMJI)

I ask once again, has the age of enlightenment come to Nigeria? Have the children of the failed generations of the pre and immediate post-independence era learned bitter lessons from their parents? As evidence, perhaps the brain gain in Nigeria’s favor is a subtle indication of this education or enlightenment. Details

Obasanjo, A New PDP and A New SouthWest After April 2004 (4). By Professor OMO OMORUYI, mni

Nobody outside the vast number of Nigerians in the north and south, Christians and Muslims and believers in African Traditional Religion including his people can boast again “We made Chief Obasanjo, the President” or “Obasanjo signed a pact with the Northern leaders to do this or that”.  Mr. President, you can now say with pride, “I am President of Nigeria through and by the ‘will of the people’, including my people”. The North as a Political Orphan. By Babayola Muhammadu Toungo

(GAMJI)

In the wake of Emir Bayero’s visit to the Villa, the rest of the Emirs, Chiefs, Ulamas and other community leaders fell head over heels to go register their names in the book of ignominy opened at the Villa for such people.  Knowing that the elections were marred with fraud, violence and government interference with electoral process, it is sacrilegious for these groups of people to be outdoing one another in congratulating Obasanjo thereby helping to perpetuate fraud. PRESS STATEMENT

Only The Guilty Runs When No One Pursues Him. From Sam Nda-Isaiah Deputy Director-General (Media and Publicity)

In a bid to breed the legitimacy and mandate, which they didn't get on April 19th, the chieftains of the PDP have now become merchants of falsehood and peddlers of superstition. Their new song is that General Muhammadu Buhari, the ANPP presidential flag bearer and his running mate, Dr. Chuba Okadigbo are calling for the assassination of Mr. Olusegun Obasanjo. Details

The Fractured Democracy. By Philip Odoemena

(GAMJI)

Unlike death and taxes, the break-up of Nigeria, with all the attendant disasters, is not inevitable. It will happen if not properly checked. Why Obasanjo will Never Leave Aso Rock Voluntarily. By Salihu Yarima

(GAMJI)

There are unconfirmed reports of some of the heavy dealings in Aso Rock that would raise corruption in Nigeria to unprecedented levels. It is alleged that several of the Oil companies got together and came up with hundreds of millions of dollars to pay off Mr. President. Details

Swallowing the Bitter Pill of May 29. By Joseph U. Anwana

(GAMJI)

I wish to state that despite the apparent reality of the fact that the Obasanjo presidency was a thought-out agenda of a few power brokers who needed a more unsuspecting platform to retain power, and had nothing to do with the wishes of Nigerians, or even the immediate aspirations of a man who had just regain his liberty from a prison sentence, yet the realisation of democracy indeed was a dream come true and the actualisation of that dream on May 29th, 1999 made that day sacrosanct in history. Details

Challenging the Decision Makers in Democracy. By Muttaqa Yusha'u

(GAMJI)

For democratization process to succeed, there is an urge, for the stake holders to view policies objectively without allowing their prejudice to prevail in the policy process, I believed for democracy itself to be nurtured in the developing countries, especially Nigeria, there is the need to build upon the previous policies in order to abhor the breaking point. We Must not Judge Nigerian Elections by American or European Standards. By Patrick  Iroegbu

Tribal Warrior And A Civil Rights Advocate At Once? By  Paul I. Adujie

National Assembly has the right to override the President's veto." Details

Obasanjo's Infantile Threats (Some Notes on the Imminent End of State in Nigeria). By Mazi Kevin O Ani

(GAMJI)

Mr. Obasanjo and his friend Balogun in their fanatical bid to sustain a deformed mandate have conveniently forgotten that in 1966, their kinsman Brigadier Ogundipe, the erstwhile most senior army officer in Nigeria, had resigned his commission in dishonour, scampered into a merchant ship and escaped to Britain when Northern Nigerian  recruits  or NCOs refused to take orders from him.  What has changed, what makes Obasanjo think that his "security forces"  would shoot at their own people in 2003 on his orders, by his mere say so? Obasanjo, A New PDP and A New Southwest: After APRIL 2003 (1) Obasanjo, A Nigerian President Who Happens to be a Yoruba. By Professor OMO OMORUYI, mni

(GAMJI)

For this essay, emphasis shall be on Chief Obasanjo’s relation with the present followers of Chief Awolowo.  Chief Obasanjo genuinely thought that the present Yoruba political leaders who are followers of Chief Awolowo are deficient in many respects especially in their knowledge of people and places in the north.   Here is a retired military officer that felt that the present followers of Chief Awolowo do not know and appreciate the political dynamics in Nigerian plural society. Development Expression And Democracy Through Volunteer Sector Initiative. By Patrick Iroegbu, Ph.D.

As we clamour for effective democratic and development performance, alternative ways to reduce corruption in government are not easy to think about. We will dare to storm, norm, and offer one. We describe it as “democracy through volunteer sector initiative.” This may quickly call for explanation, ideas, concepts and practices. Details

A Dose of Optimism in a Sea of Dystopia. By Chukwuemeka Uche Onuora

(GAMJI)

The one thing that has to occur that will ignite our technological revolution is simmering just beneath the surface. The young Nigerians that I met were all united in their determination that development and economic growth had to transpire independent of the largesse of government. I did not see the corrupted notions of Nigerianism in their intelligent faces; instead I saw an amazing disavowal of the idea that government largesse in Nigeria is an orphan, to be raped and pillaged at will in the absence of responsible adult supervision. Heeding the Message and Not the Messenger. By  Stephen Lampe

(GAMJI)

I stated in an earlier article that General Muhammadu Buhari is doing the country a great and patriotic service by taking a principled and stubborn stance against the alleged frauds and avoidable failures of INEC and its officials in the conduct of the 2003 elections and expressed the hope that General Buhari would travel the entire length of the road of legal redress. Shekarau and the Dangers of Success. By Murtala S. Sagagi

(GAMJI)

As Kano State Governor-elect (Mal. I. Shekarau) is warming up to take on the greatest challenge of his life, Obasanjo is relentlessly taking steps to consolidate his controversial victory. The events of the past few weeks have greatly raised doubts on the effectiveness of the nation’s democratic process. Many could not simply imagine watching the Baba Chief dancing in and around Aso Rock (again), while they are forced to live in the states of darkness, abject poverty, industry closures, fuel shortages, insecurity and corruption at its core. Details

“Conflict Resolution", Bane of Our Social Management. By Olu Odeniyi (Dr.)

(GAMJI)

Alhaji Buhari and Chief Ojukwu need to act as matured leaders and allow meaningful communication to transcend between them and the incumbent President Olusegun Obasanjo. We should for once be allowed to regain our lost glory, “The Giant of Africa”. Details

The Dangers of an Imperial Journalism. By Muhammad Jameel Yusha'u

Nigerians are not supporting Buhari simply because he is a Hausa/Fulani or a northerner, nor are they interested in Muhammadu Buhari as a person. People and Politics: The Dangers of an Imperial President. By Mohammed Haruna

(GAMJI)

Three weeks ago I drew the readers attention to a lecture the then General Olusegun Obasanjo gave in Ibadan 18 years ago in which he argued that what mattered about government is not how it came about but whether or not it delivered. He said then that we should stop regarding military rule as an aberration so long as it delivered. Some of us thought that was dangerous prattle and said so. Details

Democracy: The Nigerian definition. By Udaya Anthony

(GAMJI)

My heart really bled that my beloved country is passing through this kind of self-centered and non-people oriented political dispensation called by those enriching themselves from the nations treasury as "democracy". "SAMUEL LADOKE AKINTOLA": His Vision and His Amazing Sense of Humor and His Role in the PDP's Rollover Victory in the South West. By Dr. Wunmi Akintide

(GAMJI)

I just think it is about time to begin to refurbish the image of the second Premier of the old Western Region. As far as I am concerned, and you don't have to agree with me, the only sin Ladoke Akintola had committed in his political life is having to openly disagree with his Party leader, Obafemi Awolowo on whether or not it was time for the Yorubas to make peace and to join forces with the North. Professor Wole Soyinka: Sir, Need I Repeat to the Thee Festus' Remark to Paul in the 24th Verse of the 26th Book of the Biblical Book of Acts of the Apostles? By Gbola Oba

(GAMJI)

How could a man as democratic-world savvy as Kongi (the Prof's alias), who paid a near-ultimate price for the re-enactment of democracy, be insinuating that a bona fide Nigerian (i.e., Buhari), irrespective of his murderous or scandalous past (insomuch as there is no prima facie judicial conviction[s] against him) be barred- because that was the best I could make of the headline -from putting himself up for election to lead his country? What perfidy is in the ex-dictator's past that the incumbent (and allegedly re-elected) President, who was as bad a military dictator too once in his past, cannot logically be labeled with? Why didn't he (Prof. Wole Soyinka) say "OBJ Shouldn't Have Contested Election"? Details

Images and Myths Obasanjo Had to Overcome in APRIL 2003. By  Professor Omo Omoruyi, mni

(GAMJI)

I can understand why some Nigerians are asking me to write about Obasanjo and leave the Buhari and Ojukwu alone.  I agree with them in one respect.   Having successfully demonstrated to the Nigerian people how they should see General Buhari and Dim Ojukwu as co-conspirators to undermine the democratic order, I can now move on. Should Nigerians Hold ASUU Culpable? By Awaisu Ahmed

How April 19th Polls Vindicated Turaki, By Sani Ibrahim Taura

[D/D PRESS AND PUBLIC RELATIONS TO GOVERNOR TURAKI]

(GAMJI)

The greatest calamity that befell the media and their collaborators- the Urban elite is the ignorance of Turaki’s foreign trips. They lambasted Turaki’s trip as fruitless were as about $ 1 billion is expected to accrue as a result of the trips. The substantial revenue drivable from the EPZ, the BAN, the Independent Power, JRI and the proposed industries, will in the near future revolutionalise the comatosed economic sector of the country in general with an overwhelming effect. These are all fruitfulness of the trips. Details

The 4-19 Elections and the Rape of Democracy in Nigeria. By Dr. Abubakar A. Muhammad

(GAMJI)

In retrospect, the whole idea of attacking General Muhammadu Buhari is to break his sprit, his integrity,  his passionate concern and unmatchable patriotism and trust that he can do something, others will say a lot,  to move this great country forward. He has the record of achievements to show where others have failed Details

Author Nzeribe for Senate President: The Hypocrisy of a Nation. By Joseph U. Anwana

(GAMJI)

Before We Bury Buhari. By Joseph U. Anwana

(GAMJI)

I have to state here very clearly that contrary to the view of Prof. Jerry Gana that the masses are not complaining, that the electorates, Nigerian masses of which I am in close touch with are bitter and nauseated about the entire system.  The problem is that our leaders including the eloquent Information minister who now stands suspended from the Niger state chapter of PDP do not really know the "Masses" they claim to be leading and cannot hear what they people are saying because they are so far away and the gulf is so wide. A Look at Ubanese Nwanganga’s Dubious Agreement With Omo Omoruyi. By Peter Opara

(GAMJI)

One Ubanese Nwanganga wrote a while ago on this and other sites that he agreed with Omo Omoruyi and his take on Igbos and their state inside the Nigerian Nation. One recalls (apology to Omoruyi) one of several pieces by Omoruyi (all of which this writer condemned as fraudulent) in this instance that in which Omoruyi opined that the socio-political state of Igbos in Nigeria was the Igbo’s business –  better left to Igbos to deal with. Council of State is Only for Democrats. By  Professor Omo Omoruyi, mni

(GAMJI)

In this essay, I shall be making a case and a passionate appeal to the President and the political class for the removal of all “political generals” including General Muhammadu Buhari from the Council of State through a constitutional amendment, partly because by their nature of origin and their orientation to politics, they have nothing to offer a democratically elected President Details

Another Four Years of President Obasanjo. By Salihu Yarima

(GAMJI)

Nigerians should not forget if they had not resisted the government of the day on the June 12 elections, Nigeria would still be in the hands of the military. It is obvious that no matter what happens; all Nigerians most resist these fraudulent elections. The so called international support the Obasanjo administration has now is due to the concessions the Obasanjo administration has given to foreign interests. Details

Corporate Good Citizenship Or Responsibility America And Nigeria Compared. By  Paul I. Adujie

(GAMJI)

In Nigeria, most foreign companies and recently, foreign wives too, only want to observe Nigerian laws and regulations in the breach of these laws and regulations! Between Dangote's Drivers and Obsanjo's Professional. By Auwal AbuMuhammad

(GAMJI)

An urgent advertisement on vacancy for employment was placed by Dangote Group for positions with a salary package of at least N180, 000. 00K per month! The academic qualification required is ‘ a maximum of secondary school education with certificate’!...this package is for drivers, yes, people that can drive (only 40-ton) trucks. The most interesting aspect of this momentous incident is its ironic disposition when the pay package of highly educated Nigerian professionals in the government’s employ is considered. Take for an example; a brilliant mechanical engineering graduate lucky to be employed by the Federal Ministry of Works shall collect a monthly salary of less than N25, 000. 00K. Worse is my friend, a chemical engineer by profession who receives less than N16, 000. 00K as take home in the employ of the Kano State government. Details

Troubled Waters: That Cozenageous Renaming of "Our" Naval Bases. By Orok Edem

(GAMJI)

Much as I do entirely agree with the seminal foundation laid by Dr. Nowa Omoigui, concerning the naming of these installations in the country, my trepidation was borne out of the fact that when Obasanjo’s generation decides to do anything, even with the best of intentions..... watch out! The message being sent to the indigenes of these areas where the bases are located is: We are a foreign and conquering navy, and there is nothing you would do about it; as opposed to, this is your navy and children, guard and protect them. The New Focus President. By Aonduna Tondu

(GAMJI)

It is not enough to express pious vows about a new orientation for President Obasanjo and his regime. Cosmetic gestures which ignore fundamental problems are bound to fail. Respect, they say, must be earned. If  Obasanjo wants to be remembered as a great democrat, he must work for it. That is a tall order considering his recent antecedents. Details

Nzeribe as Senate President? Hell No!! By Tunde Adenodi

(GAMJI)

Bad enough that Chief Francis Arthur Nzeribe was thought fit to be a Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria by the people of Oguta; despicable and tragic, it will be, should he be considered, let alone emerge, as the president of the in-coming senate. God, in his infinite mercies, will forbid this. Details

Explaining Professor Omo Omoruyi's Tantrums. By Olisa Adigwe
