Politics of Fascism and Cultism in Obasanjo’s Nigeria. By Mahamman Adarawa (GAMJI) Politically both Obasanjo and Atiku crave for more powers and they can grab it at all cost. Both of them connived to rig the 2003 elections. The kingpin in the rigging process himself (Atiku) has confessed it. When Uba reminded Ngige that he rigged the elections for him in front of Obasanjo, the latter couldn’t take the embarrassment and had to tell them to get out of his sight, yet the decadent judiciary of our country threw out the case of rigging in the presidential elections! Youth And The War Against Corruption In Africa: Roles And Policy Options. By Otive Igbuzor, Ph.D. (GAMJI) In the paper, we argue that the youth in Africa are being socialized into corruption by the social reality in which they are living. Meanwhile, over the years, universal strategies and policies are emerging that can be used to wage and win the war against corruption. Unfortunately, the war is not being won because these strategies are not being faithfully and comprehensively utilized and also because of the narrow focus of the war. Details
Before The N25bn Recapitalization Deadline Closes. By Bello Abdullahi (GAMJI) There has always been the argument of whether the Nigerian banking industry is “under-branched” or “under-banked”? The indiscriminate issuing of banking license in the 1990’s saw the proliferation of two-branch banks, which the Nigerian press ignorantly dubbed “New Generation Banks”. From a modest number of fifty four, or thereabout, the number of banks in the country increased to the present figure of ninety. Details

Has the House Fallen? By Samuel Peter Aruwan (GAMJI) Chief Obasanjo’s globetrotting has not attracted foreign investors to Nigeria. Presidential Oath, Loyalty and Ambition. By Anie Udoh (GAMJI) What is the worth of an oath in Nigeria anywhere? Nothing! Absolutely nothing!! Once Upon A Vindictive Governor. By Aliyu Yahya (GAMJI) Of all the negative attributes that the Nigerian media has associated President Olusegun Obasanjo with, none has laid bare the ‘beast’ in the man than Sam Nda Isaiah’s revelation in the LEADERSHIP weekly newspaper on how the President had, not long ago, stooped so low in his passion for vengeance in order to take revenge on his son, Gbenga, who had crashed his (Obasanjo’s) car. Anybody who has come close enough to the deposed Emir would readily agree that, just like the rest of us, he also has his own shortcomings, one of which is his much talked about temperament. Are Nigerians United Against Corruption Or Is It, You First? By Paul I. Adujie (GAMJI) Nigerian general public have become inured and immune to these outlandish and outrageous excuses and “defenses” The corrupt are being pursued because they are from the wrong ethnic, regional or religious grouping which Nigeria is comprised and composed. Liberal Democratization; a Process of De-Islamization. By Abdul-Razaq Ibrahim Fagge (GAMJI) However, taking Democracy as rule by the majority in the interest of the majority, in a Muslim majority country like Nigeria (i.e. 50 percent as shown by the recent statistics as against the 40 percents of the Christians and 10 percents of the traditionalists), one may expect the Islamic legal system to prevail. Migration and Diaspora: Craze, Significance and Challenges (1). By Patrick Iroegbu (GAMJI) When some people, particularly those who are obviously less informed, come across a few successful immigrants return home, they think of migration as a goal in life. The opportunity to go abroad to turn their lives around, for such people, is a constant negotiation and prayers. More often than not, the phrase – checking out has become synonymous with going abroad and residing there for good. Unsure of their world at home, they think “migration” and “diaspora.” Details

Boni’s Biggest Blunders. By Abdulrazaque Bello-Barkindo (GAMJI) The above is not a title I for my part would have preferred. But boldly printed on the cd that some nameless Adamawa voter sent to me from Yola to fill me in on how Adamawa State governor, Boni Haruna is taking charge in my state were the words Boni’s Blunders and since the governor is fond of using the triple B I cast the one in-between. The Nigerian Civil Service From The Liberal Perspective. By Ja’afar Salisu Ilallah (GAMJI) We must note that the civil service is not only an end but a means of governmental control in the state. It had to rely on the regime either democratic or military as the government of the day. My point of interest is how and for what purpose the civil service would direct its creative talent in such a political system of the day. Where do they make their bombs? Who is supporting them? How can they get away each time and why their purported leaders are enigmatic? Details
Oh Really, to Mr. Paul Adujie’s “Vice President Atiku Abubakar Must Resign Now!”? By Ndubueze Godson III (GAMJI) The problem I have with the author whose latest outing on Atiku I nonetheless support is, for long he has been hailing the Nigerian government of Obasanjo/Atiku as the savior of mankind. He saw the Nigerian government as Jesus the Christ himself. As a Johnny-come-lately, I welcome his scream about looters, particularly Atiku whom I have come to know as the most cupid of all Nigerians. Details

Hisbah And Its Traducers. By Hassan S. Indabawa (GAMJI) Hisbah is on no account a terrorist group. Hisbah is a million poles away from terrorism and people suggesting anything to the contrary are makers of mischief and enemies of peace. They should be ignored. Former governor of Kano State and Chief antagonist of the Kano State Government, Rabiu Kwankwaso, Claimed at a press Conference early last month that Hisbah is a terrorist Organization. In his view, money spent to run the Hisbah Board should be used to do other “important” things. Details
The Gimmicks Of Fuel Price Increase. By Obioma Shedrack (GAMJI) On 31st August 2005, the government of Chief Olusegun Obasanjo in its egocentric manner, jerked up the pump price of fuel from its official price of N54 to N65. With this increment, it becomes the ninth time in six years that fuel prices are hiked. This increase of over 20% is not only surprising but amazing considering that this increment is coming at a time when poverty and hunger are ravishing Nigerians. Details

(GAMJI) I can now fully understand why they were doing that. Even though Sir Adesoji Aderemi was alive and well, that did not stop Prince Sijuade from openly flaunting his birth right as a Prince, and his interest in one day becoming the Oni of Ife. Being born a prince in our own part of the world, is an elitist and aristocratic position that opens so many doors of opportunity just for the asking. Details
Vice President Atiku Abubakar Must Resign Now! By Paul I. Adujie (GAMJI) Nigerians must be reminded of (inconsequential?) facts that the Constitution of Nigeria and the Code of Conduct Act for public officials, prohibits, in absolute terms, the possession, ownership and title to, foreign accounts in banks, financial institutions, including ownership of homes, even if through proxies or mistresses or absentee wife. Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s sumptuous living quarters in the United States, his unexplained affluence and opulent life style indicate breaches of provisions of Nigeria’s Constitution and Code of Conduct Act, Details
Weep Not for Atiku. By Aliyu Habeeb (GAMJI) For me, any form of pity for Vice-President Atiku Abubakar in his recent tango with his boss is misplaced. I think Atiku, as the architect of his own woes and as the progenitor of our present problems, got it coming. Details

Atiku Abubakar: The Chickens Coming Home To Roost. By Babayola M. Toungo (GAMJI) Now that Obasanjo has gone through the ranks of all notable PDM big-wigs with a sharp knife to their guts and with no other victim nearby, his attention is turned to Atiku. Why Obasanjo Deserves More Years. By Abdullahi Usman (GAMJI) Mr. President had chosen, out of his own free will, to spend the greater part of his two-term mandate some “40,000 feet above; where he has been living since 1999” and, in the process, conveniently forgot to tackle important domestic issues Details
Why Africans Go Home To Marry: A Reply To Sabella Abide. By Francis Kizito Obeya (GAMJI) Mr. Abidde, why, if I may ask do you always feel that Africans living in the diaspora are castrated by their wives’ achievements? In all your writings about the domestic life of the black people you seem to make reference to the fact that these United States seem to deprive the men the balls to be the heads of their own home. Obasanjo - Atiku Saga: Presidential Succession in 2007. By Chibuzor Okechi Anyanwu (GAMJI) My thoughts are these: first, the shameful deal the North made with Obasanjo has become sour, and both parties to that infamous agreement should hang their heads in shame -shameful because, the hands of an executive president should not have been tied as in the set of preconditions from the North, which, Ekwueme allegedly refused to sign, but, which was signed by Obasanjo. When Servant Beats Master: Obj & Atiku, A Case Of Adultery. By Prince Charles (GAMJI) Atiku, the servant, I am not necessarily an admirer of the man, but I have my soft spots for him, in the light of the metrics of 2007. No matter the sins of the servant, he is still human and deserves by virtue of human dignity – human treatment. Atiku Abubakar like any other Nigerian has the right and deservedly too – to contest the 2007 election. Details Hearkening to the Buhari Gospel. By Ikechukwu Amaechi (GAMJI) Only time will tell, but what the present controversy in the Asian country signals is that where the people are vigilant, the sanctity of the ballot box can hardly be violated. In Nigeria, the political elite treat the electorate with utter contempt because they know that the people can never bark not to talk of biting those rogues who steal their mandate and desecrate the land. Details
As The Rule Of Law Retreats. By Ikechukwu Amaechi (GAMJI) Those who argue that Nigeria is not a lawless society have a truckload of statistics to back their claim. They would, for instance assert that in every minute or so they claim, about ten women are raped in South Africa. Before you could counter that, they reel out more statistics of the crime rate in New York and other American cities. Details
That We May Live: Historical and Political Panorama of Nigeria. By Dr. P. O Nwaogu (GAMJI) Nigeria is Nigeria only when a northerner is the president of Nigeria but that thinking has to change if we consider/regard ourselves as citizens of this country. Atiku In The Eye Of The Storm. By Umar Tanimu Umar (GAMJI) Some might wonder how Obasanjo has not removed his Number Two, as he did anyone that crosses his path. Looking back to how Obasanjo appointed Atiku as his running mate for the 1999 elections, when the Turaki have already won the Adamawa State gubernatorial elections, and the role played by Atiku in both the 1999 and 2003 elections, one can be apt to say that Obasanjo, despite Atiku’s disloyalty, owes a lot to the Vice President Details
Borno's Strange Politics. By Hadiza G. President Charles Taylor of Nigeria. By Kevin Etta Jr. (GAMJI) Despite all of the foregoing and the existence of open and as yet undisputed allegations of Charles Taylor’s compromising of Nigeria’s security forces and local and state officials overseeing his detention through open bribes and private payroll (all of which have been amply availed to the United Nations et al) Nigeria’s president continues to insist that he will not hand over Charles Taylor to the Special Court in Sierra Leone to answer to charges of war crimes proffered against him. The Sudan: A Joyous Prophecy for Peace. By Nduka Uzuakpundu (GAMJI) If self-effacing Professor Bolaji Akinyemi was hailed for being an unrepentant accessory to the decolonisation of Southern Africa, it seems quite persuasive that so shall Ogwu – in her current role towards ensuring that Nigeria clinches one of the two permanent seats reserved for Africa at the United Nations Security Council. Details
(GAMJI) The argument put forward by Hamza Balarabe that Kwankwaso was the most performing governor in the history of the state is shallow and empty. All the elephant urban road projects executed by Kwankwaso were aimed at siphoning the state’s resources. The roads lack quality by every standard. Details
(GAMJI) By their own admission in the placards and official letter they carried to the Governor, they admitted their Family's right to the Deji's throne had been denied them since 1845, roughly 160 years ago, because the Adesidas have edged them out at every opportunity. They refuse, however, to acknowledge that they have been offered a chance to nominate a winning candidate this time around and they blew it. Details

An Exhilarating Twist. By Tochukwu Ezukanma (GAMJI) My disgust with Nigerian politics stems from the spooky and shady characters that populate the Nigerian political scene. It is a scene replete with men and women who desire to practice the profession of stealing and killing, under the guise of a more respectable name, politics. Details
Forgive Me For I Knew Not What I Was Doing! By Bemigho Reno (GAMJI) It was only last week that I saw a bold headline in which Vice President Atiku called for leaders to learn to accept criticism. I was relieved to hear that from the number two man in the country because it is a fact of leadership that leaders must accept criticism and be tolerant of it and not take it personal. Details
(GAMJI) The significance of 12th to 19th September 2005 to keen followers of African issues, is certainly lost to most in Africa. It may not be a mountain moving interactive and certainly palls into insignificance when compared with the now famous 9/11 in America but it brings back into focus some kind of desperation the likes of which nursed the harbingers of 9/11. Celebrating in Chains: Dancing Debtors and Their Masters. By AbdulKareem Olayiwola (GAMJI) Now, I don’t want to sound like just another critic who knows the price of every compromise but knows the value of none. So I hasten to say: it’s not that Nigeria’s overall debt situation wouldn’t get better after this has been done. It would. Or rather, it should. I only point out that the lack of transparency, the denial of the true costs, the obfuscation of the alternatives forgone, the euphoria, the celebrations, the propaganda and all the photo-ops over the recent ‘debt forgiveness’ must rank as a sad failure of national leadership, a display of want of courage by the country’s political elite, and most sadly for me, a failure of imagination by Nigeria’s intellectual class. (GAMJI) President Olusegun Obasanjo may be the “most distinguished Egba son in the 20th century.” Dr. Reuben Abati may be right about that. I wouldn’t know. I am not an Egba man. I am an Ijaw man from Agbere and Odi deep in the grooves of the Niger Delta. But as a Nigerian, I know one thing about him: he is an average president of a nation that is well endowed and whose human and natural resources he has helped to waste and plunder. Details
