The
Side Effects of Importing Polio Vaccines by By Mr.
Adalat Yusuf Polio
Expert And Consultant Not too long
ago, the recent rejuvenated and Resuscitated Kano State Newspaper,
The Triumph carried a front page story that, The Saminu
Turaki’s Led Jigawa State Government is considering buying or in
other words importing polio vaccines from an Arabian country in middle
east, up course the story did not mentioned which country precisely.
From my personal library and documents on polio, I am not aware of any Now, that
the furore is almost over apart from Kano State, the Saminu Turaki’s
Government in showing indication to join the band wagon of buying
vaccines outside. I am deeply touched, because up to now no one has
raised any objection neither showing support among The Northern
Caucus Regular Columnists, Even The Son Of the Soil And Our Only Health
Columnist did not said or raised objection concerning that stupidity
being exhibited by Jigawa State Government .. Why Do I call the
importing of the vaccine , A Side Effect, it is because ,
we all know, there is no iota of sincerity about such useless venture,
it is just an issue of The Jigawa Governor And His Sycophants have
discover a milking cow and a link to starve the state dry of its meager
revenue from the federal government, by issuing contracts to themselves
to import the vaccines, and at the end of the day, the money will go to
private hands and pockets, what a disaster. I, as a
consultant on polio know that, such thieving behavior which is about to
be exhibited by Jigawa Government is highly discouraging, it is a
disdainful act and need to be condemn by all and sundry. Jigawa has
always right from inception with National Program On Immunization and
with IDAs, the about turn is more or less to wreck the state in to more poverty
driven attitude and wide ditch On the part
of Kano State Government, as we watch the melo- drama, it left much to
be desired about the sincerity and good intention of Mal Shekarau, since
their announcement in late May, this year about the lies that they were
able to purchase Polio Vaccines From Indonesia, up to now, no news and
no preparation to launch the campaign and at the same time the children
of Kano are perpetually being implicated and affected by the polio
virus, there by putting the entire region and the continent at risks of
polio epidemic. As it was said in the past, Kano State is the
remaining major reservoir of polio virus who has put its people and
other inhabitants of Africa at risk, as such all issues should be
treated as an emergency. The attitude of the state is nothing
but dilly-dally, sluggish and chameleon approach, as it is , there is no
concern and commitment on the plight of children. Please Governor
Shekarau wake up to your responsibility. On in all, I
will say that I am not surprise by the attitude of the kano state
government This is the first time in the history of the world where by
illiterates and ignorant Ulamas, Religious Leaders And Traditional
Rulers form the major part of a consultative committee on
polio. Any advise the government need, it will sought it from
that committee, how do we expect any thing tangible to come out of that
committee that is made up of people that know next to nothing about
health, a word is enough. Regrettably there is a conspiracy of silence
by commentators on this rabid and awesome development. I am yet to come
across any reference on Health Interactive Column on this
attitude. Until I will like
to conclude this discourse by commenting on my previous write up on
which I made a critical analysis of Dr Magashi’s article entitled ‘ The
Rivalry Among Health Professionals: The Polio Experience. While I
called my article X-raying which was posted at Gamji Website, Daily
Trust of Tuesday, 15th June, 04 and Daily Triumph Of Kano State of
Monday, 21st June, 04. I must say that I am terribly
disappointed and aghast as to the level of personal criticisms by some
writers about that article. Typically, most of my critics are
Hausa/Fulani either within the country or in Diaspora. While, Ahmed
Awaisu described my article as nauseating in his rejoinder entitled ‘Keep
It Up Aminu Magashi: A Response to Adalat Yusuf , I will like to
tell him out rightly that many of the visitors of Gamji And Readers Of
Trust had hailed that write up, so it is an issue of opinion. On his
bizarre and bias questions he asked me about malnutrition, I will
confidently referred him to the recent edition of Health Interaction
where the son of the soil said and I quote: A study done few years
back by one United Nation Agency, it says that if Jigawa state with some
part of Kano, Yobe, Bauchi and other neighboring states were to exit as
a nation, by all developmental indices, that nation will be the poorest
on earth and ……… The greatest dilemma and plight of Jigawa's
children is malnutrition, the mother of all evils which equally
complicates diseases, notable among them, Malaria, Diahoearal Diseases
and Vaccine Preventable Childhood Killer Disease (Measles And
Meningitis). The vulnerable women who are mostly illiterates are on
daily basis being afflicted with all manner of preventable problems that
frequently send them to the life beyond prematurely, among the commonest
are, Pregnancy Induced Hypertension And Eclampsia, Obstructed /Prolonged
Labour, Bleeding During Pregnancy, Puerperal Complications As Well As
Malnutrition Another of
my critic named Abba Anwar in his rejoinder entitled ‘Re:
On Polio Discourse, Dr Magashi's Heroic Failure, Written By Adalat Yusuf
posted at Amana and Arewa Online Websites, he query my
qualification and expertise as far as the issue of polio is concern, I
am not the type that join issues with people, but on request, I will
send him my Resume for scrutiny and at the same time, most
of his writings in Trust And Gamji And Amana Online Websites, are more
or less centered around some body looking for a job either from Shekarau
Government or the will be government of General Mohammed Buhari
Government, if at all it will emerge, he is a jingoist character and a
local champion. Lastly another person in his response to my discourse
Entitles Polio: Please, All Is Not Well By
Ahmed Gana also posted at Amana online, he made his readers believe that
all is not well about the polio as response to my assertion that since
all the representatives of Kano Health Team that used to attend WHO and
UNICEF meetings on quarterly and at times 6 month basis, no one has ever
raised the issue of other sinister diseases, so we assume all is well.
Did Ahamd Gana wanted us to be magicians, we can’t act unless issues
are raised. My submission is that, it is the typical nature of
Hausa/Fulani when they attend workshops and seminars, all what they are
after is their allowances (DSA and per diem) and a good accommodation
with out actual participation in any deliberation that will be
instrumental to development . Finally, I
want to air my strong voice that despite criticisms and condemnation, I
will not deter from airing my view and exposing miss -information, ill
and bad intention, grand agenda to discourage us to rid Mr Adalat
