The Nigerian Politician, A Three Course Meal Of Deceit, Lies and Plenty of Magic By Prince
Charles Dickson Jos,
Plateau For
a nation which boast of more shrewdness than the Italian Mafias. This
shrewdness has only been demonstrated through our fantastic display of
deceit, lies and plenty magic. A
political terrain that blatantly parades brain boxes in the art of
crookedness, the Nigerian politician today has turned Action:
Omisore formerly Deputy Governor of Talk
of deceit. The nations or is it Africa’s largest undemocratic party
PDP after tormenting one of its own in the former Minister of Internal
Affairs Sunday Afolabi apologized to the family for “killing him”
simply because he was on the verge of disgracing them. Action
2: Some bunch of ‘serious’ men for lack of what to do are sitting in
a National Working Committee meeting to decide the fate of superstar
Governor of Anambra State for daring the party by celebrating the one
year anniversary of his being saved from the claws of political
godfathers and mothers, talk of an intra-party crisis…lies I say, the
issue is that of political intrigues by a bunch of calculating, ritual Same
state, plenty magic, after former Governor Mbadinuju, fought his
godfather Emeka Offor, fought teachers, preachers, and workers, he was
defeated not at least after declaring for another party under which he
contested, still he was rewarded with an ambassadorial posting. The
statistic of the number of Senators who sleep during sittings is
staggering, although Late Oyi the icon Okadigbo made a defense for
them…”when you stay awake and hear the subjects of discuss, you’ll
cry for the nation”. The figures are simply magic as regards the
number of Representatives who have never contributed to any debate for
or against. Well is it not better to shut than to lie about how much was
in the ‘ Action
3: Deceit! Deceit! Deceit! In the recent past the entire National
dailies have been awash with the assassination threat allegedly issued
to the In
my nation the greatest asset for political adventure as it is, is
failure, just fail and you are on your way to big time pie in the
national cake. That is the reason a four time gubernatorial failure was rewarded
as a Foreign Minister. Our
politicians are swift in looting the national treasury and then start to
jaw-jaw over non-issues while important matters are left on the burning
pot unattended to. Politicians who promise they would Action
4: The Nigerian politician is quick to promise heaven and then fail to
deliver the earth. My president promised a popular footballer his
1milion dollars hooked in a distressed bank, months later after failing
to keep his words, he told reporters, “don’t you say things out of
excitement”. Haba! Mr. President if for nothing, but for the office
you occupy. We
are in the court waiting to see the drama that will unfold as a governor
is being messed up, fast forward, is Governor James Onanefe Ibori an
ex-convict? Even if he was so what. At least the crime is not “really
serious”. The Police came to court with uncertified copies of
documents… the Inspector General who is expected to testify is in far
away ‘many waters’. Who is deceiving whom? The
average commercial sex worker would covertly envy the Nigerian
politician who will in a life time belong to at least four major
political parties and as many minor ones. After
failing to impress the National Assembly on several occasions a former
Minister was recently cleared but no Ministry to post him to, so he was
asked to ‘attach’ with a Ministry that already has a Minister. Finally
it hurts to see a nation so touted to be the heaven of all manner of
potentials suffer in the hands of a (s)elect few who refer to themselves
as politicians and leaders. The issue is that we are beginning to get to
a stage where our problems have become over flogged to the point the
problem is now us. I
know of a State that has 23 Ministries, another one has a Commissioner
of Information, Director of Press, Deputy Director of Press, Personal
Assistant on Public Relations, Senior Special Assistant on Media and
then a Media Consultant. All political jobbers. I
am not an unrepentant pessimist or see no-good critic, Politics is dirty
but then there is principle, integrity. In Niaja
is a nation where the players in the power game are a three-course meal
of deceitful, lying and magical people because the more you look the
less you see, they serve you deceit as appetizer, lies as main course and magic as dessert. |
