I was obliged to respond to an article full of insults written by Abdulrazaque Barkindo on Aliyu Tilde’s support for Buhari.Barkindo’s article has so much surprised me that I had to check the archives and read his previous articles. I am now convinced that he is not principled and probably he is one of the dubious writers working to return IBB against the wishes of the masses.

Aliyu Tilde is one of the honest intellectuals from the North whose articles are loved by all Nigerians because of its originality. I am yet to meet a Nigerian who disliked his articles. Tilde was among the courageous individuals who encouraged Buhari to respond to the yearnings of the masses. After the election was rigged, Tilde magnanimously accepted an appointment from his Governor to rejuvenate the education sector, no wonder Bauchi State is among the states of the federation that witnessed development recently.

I wish to remind Abdulrazaque Barkindo the differences between Buhari and Babanginda which he is quite aware of, even though he preferred to trample on the truth (mallam yaa taake sani).

Buhari is known to every Nigerian as a frank and honest person while Babangida is regarded as crafty and deceptive.

Buhari was chosen by the then SMC to rule after they had overthrown a corrupt civilian regime that was drifting the nation to chaos. IBB on the other hand plotted and subverted (Judas style) the then leadership in order to get power.

Buhari used to give account of his stewardship every month while he was head of state, while IBB couldn’t account for even a simple thing like the gulf war oil price wind fall.

Buhari has managed our economy well without succumbing to IMF’s and World Bank’s pressures. IBB gladly swallowed their loans and plunged the whole nation to penury.

Buhari ruled by justice and fairness while IBB ruled by divide and rule tactics. Infact IBB used tribalism to divide people and failed, he then used sub regionalism and also failed. At last he plotted to use religion and we are suffering from the after effects, but in sha Allah that will also fail.

Buhari is one of the most magnanimous person I have ever known, for example, even when he had rumours that a fifth columnist within the SMC was plotting to to take over power, he had decided not to work on rumours but facts. It had turned out to be the costliest unintentional mistake that Buhari committed. He should have established the facts quickly and retired IBB, for that would have saved us the turmoil and suffering.  He didn’t arrest IBB nor trumped up charges against him. Compare his magnanimity with that of IBB who killed his childhood friend & schoolmate (Mamman Vatsa) on some dubious charges of plotting to overthrow him. I remembered in one interview he callously described late Mamman Vatsa as a scorpion in the pocket!

Buhari and the then SMC enacted decree No. 4 to curb the excesses of the press. IBB repealed the decree, smiled at the pressmen and the first case of letter bombing of a journalist happened during his regime. If Mr Barkindo is sincere, let him write in the web and tell us which is better, decree N four or decree  L bomb!

Buhari proved his sterling leadership qualities again in civilian life as the chairman of PTF. He rehabilitated our services that were neglected during IBB years, akin to the Marshall plan for Europe after the world war two. Mr Barkindo will discover that it is only the PTF ambulances that are still working all over Nigeria.

Buhari attracted the largest ever political gathering in the history of the country. Infact Mr Barkindo is pretty aware that Buhari’s popularity is so overwhelming that an instant crowd forms where ever he appears in Nigeria. Such is the extent to which he is loved by the masses. IBB has to choose public gatherings to attend after the incident in Zaria some few years ago, when the masses stoned him.

I challenge Mr Barkindo to visit Nigeria and especially walk the streets of Northern Nigeria and listen to the lyrics composed by the masses, calling on Buhari to come and deliver them from the oppressors.

Yours faithfully,
