Watching the antics of some members of Nigeria’s National Assembly can be frustratingly unnerving! Too many of them, too frequently, waste valuable time indulging in the most useless of our national pastime, grandstanding for no national purpose at all!

Why are some of Nigeria’s lawmakers vigorously frivolous? It makes you wonder why some of these national assembly members choose to engage in these ostentatious fiddling of the most vainglorious type? Why do they engage in frivolities, when there are national challenges that are begging for attentive solutions?

Our national lawmakers and public officials ought to learn to appreciate the power and position that they have with the positive impact or effect therein for all Nigerians, when and if these persons at the helms of our national affairs, actually engage their focused attention in sustained positive way.

There are current national issues that are really BURNING and begging for attention, such as high rate of unemployment, the bastardized exchange rate of the Naira compared with the US dollar, national security issues like high crime levels, the long abandoned and neglected public infrastructures, social amenities etc

Why do they neglect these national issues, but instead, they are singularly focused on trying to unseat President Obasanjo who only has two years left in his second and final term as the Nigeria’s leader?  Why do they have this penchant for impeachment sections of the constitution of Nigeria; But without a similar or corresponding interests in sections of the constitution of Nigeria dealing with social contract with the citizens and how to improve the life, health and happiness of all Nigerians?

Why are some Nigerians so focused on trying to embarrass, humiliate and intimidate President Obasanjo, even though he now has two years left as president of Nigeria?

Perhaps we ought to remind some of our errant lawmakers, that their national duty and service to which they have been called, and for which the our constitution offer specifics and guidance, is to move Nigeria forward into an advanced and great nation, our greatness is essentially in their hands, just as they fritter away time and opportunities for Nigeria’s greatness!

Why is mediocrity now commonplace? What manner of men are these, who are only interested in personal vendetta and revenge against President Obasanjo’s person, instead of paying attention and yielding their focus to NEPA’s inability to supply steady and reliable electricity? Instead of demonstrating an eagle-eyed focus, and or hawkish attention to the rehabilitations, of Nigerian roads and bridges, Nigerian Universities, other educational institutions and the long-neglected plethora of Nigerian social amenities etc? Why are they on interested in revenge and vindictiveness?

Why is the pursuit of personal vendetta against President Obasanjo more important than a chance to better the lives of one hundred and fifty million Nigerians? What manner of men are these? Why does it appear as if the other political parties in the Nigerian national assembly have successfully hoodwinked PDP members against their own man? PDP has an overwhelming majority, how does it happen, that PDP cannot discipline its fold? Why is PDP national assembly members not aware that if the PDP led government/president fail, they fail?

Actually, I have to thank Senators Nnamani and Ojougboh who this week are the voice of reason of the upper house, for their admonition of members of the lower house of the national assembly where this impeachment nonsense of a blackmail was orchestrated, the president of the senate rightly called it what it is! A death penalty sentence to the presidency, a grave sentence which is clearly unwarranted in the circumstances!
Impeachment is the ultimate political punishment for an erring president it is the last resort in the absence of all other alternatives!

Dr. Cairo Ojougboh of Ika Federal Constituency has stated rightly, that his political party and his constituents have not authorized him to embark upon or participate in, any impeachment process or proceedings against President Obasanjo! How many of the grandstanding lawmakers can actually say that they have the consent or permission of their various constituencies, in their current efforts of blackmail and intimidation? The president has barely two years left in his second and final term, and unsettling actions such as these impeachment distractions would heat up the polity, unnecessarily and it may actually impede or hinder a smooth transfer of power in 2007; This is, all so well said by Senator Ojougboh! What remained to be asked, is why all these are lost on those indulging in the gra~gra impeachment nonsense?

Why are some of our politicians so recklessly intent on being self-destruct? And when will they focus on the momentous work at hand, which is the serving and protecting Nigeria’s national interests! Instead, they are always wasting time on these constant subterfuges? Why the attempt to unleash monstrosities that would be out of c control, were this president actually impeached? Why these constant chicaneries and shenanigans? Why are they always seeking to bring-down fires and brimstones without a just cause?

Why are they always engaging in actions that have absolutely not benefits to the average Nigerian’s quality of life, absolutely not beneficial effect at all!
When will these frequent useless legislative schisms stop and the heavy-lifting of creating national policies and infrastructures begin? Why are some afraid of a corrupt-free society, to which President Obasanjo seeks and for which he is being persecuted? Most Nigerians are convinced that the impeachment moves will fail! Most Nigerians are supportive of efforts by the president to leave a corrupt-free society as an enduring legacy for Nigeria.

Many of our politicians need to imbibe the mantra of the former GNPP chieftain, Waziri Ibrahim, of the politics without bitterness credo. Nigerians ought to entrench Nigeria’s national interests as the only interests worth pursuing by all!

It has become clear, that the impeachment threat is a ruse, a machination out of blackmail backwaters and the threat intended to cower the president, to intimidate and harass him, to prevent him from pursuing those who are facing the fires of anti-corruption war and crusade… President Obasanjo is deservedly stubborn he will not bow, falter or fail!

He will NOT succumb to these threats, blackmail or ruse and intimidation, the urgent, important work of leading Nigeria to the promised land of greatness must go on earnestly.
