Fighting the Good Fight

We fight financial corruption but leave moral corruption aside. Fight cultists but pay little attention to social miscreants in all forms. Want a better society but fail to wage an official war against indiscipline.

When laws are properly enforced (policing, justice delivery), becomes number one priority, when the punishment fits the crime and is delivered with no reference to social status and with no legal system manipulation, things change for the better.

Social miscreants roam the streets of Lagos as if there are no laws to effect arrest, prosecution and imprisonment. I am sure there is a law against harassment of fellow citizens, obstruction of traffic flow either directly or indirectly. It is not enough to provide an avenue for rehabilitation without enacting laws to punish those who do not want to be rehabilitated (and contribute positively toward the advancement of the society) but chose to continue along a path which is more or less a crime punishable by law. I notice a lot of ingenuity and emphasis placed on laws geared toward extorting funds from struggling masses under the guise of taxes and levies.

Curbing little crimes control development of bigger ones, check and balances at all level, code of conducts strictly developed, monitored and enforced.

Background and drug screening for police and other law enforcement personnel to root out potential hazards down the line. Regular (ongoing) re-assessment to forestall same.

Monopoly in sectors promotes "business as usual" attitude. No parallel (competing) law enforcement agencies for a nation of up to 150 million people. I am sure the ratio of present officers to protected citizens would be grossly inadequate. The intelligence unit need competition in the form of parallel agencies. Break the monopoly, create competition through parallel units in all sectors. Base funding and compensation on service delivery (merit) and watch things improve.

Extend background and other checks to all other relevant Government agencies, breaking monopoly where necessary. Base advancement on service delivery. University commission. I am guessing intellectuals. Heal your sector. Work out procedures for regular assessment of employees (emphasis lecturers) by their students on protected basis. Discipline (including dismissal) where necessary. This should curb the lecturers from playing "God" where their students are concerned and also stop request for sexual and financial gratification in exchange for grades, thus elevating standards. I am sure the law of the land (and university) covers the cultists issue (non registered organization). The problem arises, which one of you grand patron/godfather wants to be the first to enforce the law on his/her children running the cults.

Repeal immunity (license to loot) clauses. Set up independent auditing units (more than 2 to check corruption) and let them do separate and regular auditing of all sections (from presidency downwards).

Make the law of the land supreme as the case should be. Make the legal system work. Audit the system and delivery on a regular basis.

We all know the present plight comes from decades of neglect, abuse and corruption. Past decades reforms aimed at distraction from the crime of past public office holders. This presidency seems focused at fixing the damages of those decades. You may do the good within you a favor by focusing on positive steps been taking rather than concentrate on past "documented" characters of those in charge (you are far from been a saint yourself, in fact............). Loud criticism from those who have benefited from those decades of neglects. Present reforms seems against their "rotten business as usual". They have stolen money thus can buy their way into loud medium, also can influence "turkey neck" journalist into assisting in their destructive cause. Some non influenced journalists just want to rant about some new words they just picked up and what better way to rant for them than to write about unsubstantiated "what'snot" regarding their land. Just reflects their low self esteem, "monkey don wear suit".
