Only In Nigeria, It Can Happen ……

Some will call it wonders, while others see it as irresponsibility because only in Nigeria that it had happened. Consider the following episode; you will surely be convinced that it is only in Nigeria that it could happen.

 

It is only in Nigeria that a sitting President like Obasanjo can establish a university and library while still in office, and at the same time starving public schools and other tertiary institutions of funds. You are free to call that a “Presidential irresponsibility, if you wish.

 

Only in Nigeria that a sitting President can serve as Chief Executive Officer of a private firm, and shamelessly establish a private manufacturing company for himself while still in office.

 

It is only in Nigeria that the wife and son of the President can enjoy immunity against prosecution, even where they visibly indulge in fraudulent activities. Only in Nigeria that the first lady and siblings can fraudulently purchase or steal public houses ( Ikoyi Housing Robbery) and go free, devoid of any prosecution.

 

Only in Nigeria the President can bribe members of the National Assembly to remove their leadership through a sitting governor. Only in Nigeria you can find an ex-convict presiding over a state as governor. It is only in Nigeria you can find an ex-convict being a senator or federal law maker, making law to punish other innocent citizens. Only in Nigeria you can find a military ex-convict becoming a Head of State and even honored with the highest national merit award of GCFR.

 

Only in Nigeria you find federal legislators demonstrating against the actions of a minister. Only in Nigeria you find a minister sitting firmly in his office after federal legislators passed a vote of no confidence on him, on the basis of corruption and fraud.

 

Only in Nigeria you can hear a minister telling other citizens that Abuja is not for them, (the poor and middle income groups). Only in Nigeria one can become a Senate President without first wining election into the senate.

 

Only in Nigeria you can find a sitting governor building a personal residence bigger and more expensive than the state government house. Funny enough, the state must pay rent to the occupant who doubles as governor. Ask Governor Makarfi and Ali Madu Sheriff.  Only in Nigeria you find a minister being reappointed after he was initially sacked for bribery scandal.

Only in Nigeria you find a Professor telling blatant lies without considering the title he is using, which is the highest academic honor to achieve in life. Only in Nigeria you can appoint or elect somebody today and by tomorrow, he will be counted as one of the richest individual in his home town or state.

 

Only in Nigeria you can find somebody paying for a house worth ^100 million just 16 months after becoming a CBN governor. Only in Nigeria you find an iron lady paying ^75 million deposit for the purchase of private residence just 18 months after becoming the Chief Executive of a federal government agency.

 

Only in Nigeria you find ex- military administrator spending money to contest presidential election as if he holds the key to the government treasury. It is only in Nigeria you can find private schools in session while public schools are closed for lack of payment of teacher’s salaries.

 

Only in Nigeria you find Federal and State governments sponsoring thousands of people for pilgrimage to Saudi Arabia and Jerusalem while pensioners are dying as a result of non-payment of their pensions. It is only in Nigeria that you find police going on strike. Only in Nigeria you can find thieves and armed robbers recruited into the police.

 

Only in Nigerian free market economy you have single importer and distributor of sugar in the country. Do you call that monopoly? I hope the federal legislators will avoid passing the new executive Sugar Amendment Bill as submitted by the president. Unless they want confirm their acceptance of Ghana Must Go from the beneficiary of the Bill.

 

Only in Nigeria you have committee of crooks parading themselves as leaders sharing government owned companies among themselves. You can cross check the ownership of Oando, Conoil an AP Plc for confirmation.

 

 

Only in Nigeria you can donate to the president’s private undertakings and be rewarded a month after with waivers and juicy contracts. The president can even go ahead and increase fuel pump price for the donors to recoup their investments as quickly as possible, even if that action is capable of worsening the economic life of the citizens.

 

Only in Nigeria you can obtain a judgment like that of Abuja Court of Appeal, in the case of Buhari Vs Obasanjo 2003 election. Only in Nigeria you see the defendant’s lawyer leaving the court premises with the presiding judge in the same vehicle immediately after the latter delivered judgment on their case.
