Quite clearly, terrorism has become one of the greatest challenges facing the modern world. The focal objective of terrorism includes unleashing unprecedented political, economic and social horrors on their victims. They do so by making sure that they negatively affect the social, political, and economic lives of their victims. A perfect instance is the September 11, 2002 Al-Qaeda terrorist attack on the United States. After that mind- shattering terrorist attack on the United States occurred, a lot of lives were lost; fear, horror and anguish was unleashed on the entire nation. In fact, as a result of that attack, the economy, the political and the social lives of the Americans have been affected remarkably. Besides loosing their lives in these attacks, many others have lost their jobs following the collapse of the World Trade Center. Worst more, many families have been psychologically impacted by the loss of their loved ones and they are yet suffering the pain of this loss till this very day.

Comparably, since corruption penetrated our political, economic and social systems, our lives have been badly affected. Many Nigerians are horrified by the corruption, looting and embezzlement of our elected leaders, which has permeated deep into our systems. Many Nigerians wake up daily with the dread and horror of what they and their families will eat; many can no longer afford to send their children to school, not to talk of provide quality health care for them. Yet, our elected leaders are looting away our wealth into other nations. Consequently, the poor masses in Nigeria are agonizing daily under the tragedy of what can only be described as terrorism against us by our leaders. Rather than offer us the dividend of democracy, they have plagued our lives with the severest terrorism imaginable to the human mind.

To deal squarely with this menace of terrorism called corruption by our leaders against us, Nigerians must not allow these shameless thieves elude the world’s attention. These deleterious Nigerian terrorists whose corruption and looting have plunged our lives under the plight and terror of poverty, lack, starvation, unemployment and destitution must not be allowed to get away with it. We must now resist them; we must not allow them to continue to terrorize our lives with corruption, looting and the consequences thereof.

In my opinion, there are no worst acts of terrorism as the ones being perpetrated in Nigeria by her leaders. While millions are unemployed, starving and barely surviving on less than a dollar per day in Nigeria, our leaders are busy deceiving themselves buying sprawling mansions worth millions of naira in foreign nations. While our educational system is rapidly collapsing and our society is plagued by diseases that are claiming several lives due to poor health care services, our leaders are traveling to foreign lands to receive medical care. I call on all Nigerians and the international community to fight against the furtherance of economic corruption in Nigeria.

If there is one crucial fight all Nigerians must unite to fight against, it is the fight to rid our land of these indigenous terrorists, who have hijacked our economic and political system and made an open mockery of us by their gruesome greed, gluttony and embezzlement. Nigerians must stand up with one resolve; the resolve to fight against corruption and demand our leaders to fulfill their electoral responsibilities to all citizens. Nigerians should not make the mistake to fight against each other; neither should we clamor for the disintegration of the country. We the ordinary people are not the enemy of the land per se; it is those who steal away our wealth that are the enemies of the land. In fact, the best way to describe these looters in our land is “worst than Al-Qaeda terrorists.” Until we get rid of these terrorists from the helm of our political lives, we will continue to suffer under them.

In summation, I call on the international community and the Nigerian public to place these looting terrorists on the most wanted lists of Nigerian terrorists. Let all of them be arrested and severely, but publicly subjected to the kind of treatment terrorists and arm robbers deserves as measured by the Nigerian and international law! Until then, Nigerians may never be free from the hands of these terrorists who have hijacked our nation.

With no apology, this indeed is my position!
