The Polity of Today With Tomorrow By Sylvester I Ukusare
We’ve at last realised the default that had been culminating the ungovernability of our country Nigeria hence it now seeks sincereness and oneness as path to development.
To approach the accurate tendency to embrace the path to a perfect government, it now suggest that our governance should be referred back to the charter of 1956/63.
For the citizenry to pursue the right course for an acceptable government it requires a patriotic leader that would be able to curb the excess nepotism and secterianism practices of course at the managerial levels, thus should apply authentic civil administrative attendance purely affirmed with democratic principles as such the rule of law and status quo ad infinitum.
To this regard, we need a government that will actualised the “Nigerian Project” such as implementing the actual policies that will bring Nigeria to the position of her founders thereby imply the laws that guided the country’s independence with the amalgamation proclamation between 1960/63 and therein the 1956 manifesto that motivated the motion for Nigeria’s Independence from colonial rules presented by one of our pragmatic and patriotic leader in Nigeria’s history, our esteem Elder statesman, Pa Chief Anthony Enahoro.
As would be recall, if any government would be bold enough to confront and reinstate these fundamental ingredients, the country will eventually yield to peace, a perfect unity will be established again.
Although, our past and present history reveals the passiveness of our leaders not to comply with the principal agreements of the charter due to facts borne out from personal glory and lust for wealth, besides, it now resulted to lopholes compounded with gross corruption, as such gives cynic opportunities to accumulate wealth easily without objection.
Hence, the current ferocious and dictatorial rules by these leaders auspices to the pinnacles of powers, but with the view to serve and eliminate the obstacles perturbing the society from development. But, they fall short of their direction and became culprits to the mafia system imbibed with masochism practice as the game of order to protect their stools.
However, Nigeria is not destined to live in such perpetual state of anarchy if not for the unfortunate circumstances. Yet, we love the indivisibility of the country with unshaken unity. Thus, it now demands to be liberated from these hypocrites and sycophants. Therefore, when would this opportunity come? It wont be neither a mirage, magic nor miracle. It shall basically come because the time is limited now.
The fantasy of these past and present leaders has contributed lot of damages to the history of our fatherland that at a time sponsored a civil war, yet , still we’re characterised with continuous restiveness due to simple facts that we’re not ascribed to a regulative structurize policies that should resolve and amend social problems related to employment, distributive representations as well as infrastructural developments with a propound economic formulation coupled with socio security programs , also with a basic monthly wage that would equate the present economy situation in the federated state.
The continues devaluation of our currency ought to be balanced by increasing the monthly wages of the citizenry because of the hyper inflation not monitored.
Thus, one is motivated to question this administration, is the current dispensation a federated or unitarial government ?
Explicitly, our economic position is so potential that it would be able to afford the sponsors of these projects but because of the unpatriotic leadership positions and it unrespect to the supreme constitution, it now becomes a difficult task to realised by this dispensation because being corrupted with design to accumulate the peoples wealth.
Thereupon, these are arrowed to the facts that we’re yet to realised a tangible government that will come to amend the basic causes to the myraid problems enveloping the nation with the component states as regard to the multicultural and the multiethnic nationalities groups.
Nevertheless, we have to give kudos to the current dispensation for have initiated the zero intolerance position on corruption and actually pathing with the direction.
However, confirmation from across the federation indicates the commission to be efficient, despite being hypocritical, to distract political opponents, though, the exercise has yielded dividends of ethic morality in recent times hence it now install fears to Nigerians rank and file, although, it is speculative that the corrupt commission is affiliated to the partisan body of the PDP and its intimidatives organ to prepare the current incumbency of the Presidency and it various executives to another tenure thus the third term agenda.
But, there are agitations that our suspected past corrupt leaders should be brought to book.
Moreover it is construed from many quarters of intelligentista in both national and international that this government is fathered by Gen Abrahim Babaginda and this is the main reason the EFCC could not probe or bring him with others elites and past leaders to book of justice.
Meanwhile, if the government comportment seems suspicious to prudence thus corruption would be difficult to be eliminated from the society because of the insincererity by the government and its agents.
But we ought to learn from past not to repeat history hence corruption is the bane to the country’s development.
THE STRUGGLE CONTINUE
The unfortunate corrupt manifestations of the embattled impeached Gov Chief DSP Alamieyeseigha of Bayelsa state of the South-South axis been incarcerated, entangled with justice at the moment, wont shade bleak to the quest for political emancipation in the region. Even there is the views that the impeached Gov Alamieyeseigha should be release from further incarceration and be restated to his position for the sake of democracy and peace in the region because his dethrone is not democratic neither juridical justifiable but of a mediocrity bang.
Moreover, it wont distract or demoralised the Niger Delta peoples struggle for a political defination rather they will capriciously continue the agitation in civil and diplomatic process to attained their political emancipation of “Equity, True Federalism, True Derivation formular with Resource Control and finally a Native of the South Southerners for a slot for the Presidency in 2007”.
Above it, no mechanism of intimidations would stop the oppressed peoples of the Gulf Coast of the South South from attainning their political rights for self determinational defination. Paradoxically, the observations of the insecurity situations in the country as been attested by the confessional indications of the IGP of the federation, hence the police force is not competent and pragmatic to resolve the country’s insecurity situation, merely on the basis of economic stance.
Thus, the federal government should be transparent enough to restructure the Nigeria Police from the present condition that appears uncompartable to fight crime. It is unfortunately that there is dimensional increases of sophisticated crimes in the country mostly in the south.
Though, crime is equivalent to nature but is being stigmatised by poverty condition of the citizenry caused by unemployment, moreover these facts, it does not suggest that there are no solutions to resolve it.
Yet, the deplorable circumstances of insecurity lingering in the federation is still to be curbed, because, the inactive respond of the police force to curtail robbery and assassins killings mostly in the South-South, with special focus to Delta, Edo, Rivers, Akwa-Ibom and Cross River states is identified to logistic, poor wages and ethical prudence of it proficiency .
Therefore, we suggest for civil defence to be fully activated in these states as well as its various communities so as to soften the police job and should not be politicised or corrupted with partisanship.
However, It is presumed that most of the police officers are collaborators of the armed bandits just like the terrific days of “Lawrence Anini” that culminated the then IGP Inyang to resign his post during Gen Babaginda’s regime.
Although, is being reasoned in many quarters that the police are part of the system and blessed by some unscrupulous political leaders.
Consequently, for a perfect security state to come to place, we suggest the intervention of the federal government to compelled the current situation by reforming the police institution by being accorded with other special and local security operatives that would be meant to a systematical subjugate control of corrupt acts between the various agencies of the public security enforcement agents, such as in applications in advanced world. Besides, the police force should be privatise to become more effective.
More so, the South South regions where the rate of crimes is alarming needs immediate resanity from the insecurity state by suppressing the prolifiration of arms by youth gangs.
This will serve as a means for the government to affirmed it fundamental moral responsibility for the security protection of it citizens.
But the governance are yet to prevail and still lacks the competence to combat the situations to normalcy hence the yardstick of implementing the onerous agenda of a socio economic policies such as gainful employment and economical incentives in form of monthly salary to the indigenes without employment should be seriously considered as one of the fundamental windows to overcome crimes in the federation thus the government should apply regional scheme to evaluate monthly wages to citizens and should be equated with international economic standard of at least a 14.000 Naira as the minimum salary for workers in the country..
MERCY FOR ALHAJI ASARI DOKUBO
In the meantime, we need to call a spade a spade as with the indication, i hereby refer to the country’s present heat up in polity, it is sadly that the circumstances that led to the arrest of Alhaji Asari Dokubo with the others ethnic groups leaders such as Chief Ralph Nwazuruike, MASSOB, Mr. Gani Adams, Chief Dr. Fredrick Fasherun appears to be foggy thus compounded with anti-democratic attendance such as intimidations which is not expected from this current administration, presumed to be of democratic stipulations.
It sounds very strange for the government to have taken such unpopular steps that could be defined as the act of authoritarian management of course military in action that is detested in truly democratic environment, hence the action is allied with the successive government of Gen Sani Abacha, that was once condemned by the world of been ferocious and tyranic .
Therefore, the prosecutors of these pragmatic ethnic freedom fighters that originated from the southern regions of the country should note that they’ve committed democratic blunders to stop the freedom crusaders from exercising their civil duty and rights as a law-abiding citizens, this is a blatant violation to human rights stipulations. Moreso, in any democratic management, they are bonafide to clamour for political emancipation of their peoples.
As recall, with focus on Asari Dokubo, thereupon calling on the central management to free his natives from continous oppressions, marginalisation as respects to the socio economic political reality thereby for the defination of equity, fair play and justice in the Nigerian state.
Although, he never declared or has used weapons to proclaim a republic neither been identified with the dethroned governor of Bayelsa state but it was all for a comedian mood of agitating besides a form of pressure for the federal government to understand their plight by soliciting for an imminent stopped to the continues subjugation of his people and the region, otherwise it was not an attempt to overthrow or destabilised the democratic government of the current dispensation.
Also, it was enlightenment campaigns to attract sympathetic attentions from the patriotic citizens of the nation as well as the entire world to understand the effects of the humiliations done to the zone and to his ancestors terrains with the resources, that currently sustains the nation’s economy through it economic contribution of almost 95% to the Nigerian state, yet, the zone is restricted to indefinate poverty with inauspicious style of live .
Therefore, the government should be humanly thus morally considerate, more so we seeking the lordship of the federal government to apply justice with mercy by revoking the treason and felony ploy that befalls Asari Dokubo with the other ethnic lords and allowed them the imminent freedom as synonymous to upholding democratic norms.
Notwithstanding, the idea of arbitrary transfers of Asari Dokubo from one location to other unknown destination by the government penitentiary authority should be stopped because it affect the health of it detainee, also, the detainee is not a criminal but a political indicted figure.
Thus, our supreme constitution should be protected from being manipulated hence the government should tender a judicious and collective consensus process to set up final dialogue to resolve the impasse in the Niger Delta as an imperative to accommodate the peoples quest with a democratic spirit, this would boost the democratic space in Nigeria.
In a glimpse, it is opinion that the federal government should decongest the Niger Delta axis from its fearful military presence and replace it with riot police but to be cautioned to abide with civil principles and not to truncate the peoples fundamental rights as with present evidence of killings of youths and the natives like animals with mere accusation of alleged robbery, bunkering and vandalisation of pipelines.
This is crude and exaggerative hence not permitted in a civil society.
Therefore, for the sake of democracy, it is imperative that dialogue should presides all sensitive undertakings in a country presumed to be managed by populist leaders..
THE QUEST OF THE SOUTH-SOUTH FOR PRESIDENCY
The federal government is likely to respond to the agitations of the peoples of the South-South therein the Niger Deltans for an apportunity to the Presidency despite it third term agenda.
Although the country’s polity is confused at the moment but it appears that Mr. President could accomplished the other principal demands such as “Resource control with a formulated Derivation policy” of at least 50% and “True Federalism notion” for self determination.
Though the transparency of the central management is yet to be rectified but the current wind of events dictates such could come to pass soonest.
In view of the above, it is certainly true that the South-South should be enforced with the task to produce a leader to represent the region in the forthcoming elections to vie for the Presidency.
For this to be accomplished, the SSPA which is the main administrative body of this districts is bound to entertain obstacles as to identify the peoples choice that will eventualy become the qualified candidate to represent the zone.
Thereupon, this brings to the hypotesy of using a searchlight to focus the candidacy of the likes of Pastor Chris Okotie and Gov Dr.Peter Odili of River state that resulted to be amongst the first roles of the contenders despite Odili is yet to ascertain his candidacy but the agility is psychologically pronounced in his daily self propagation in the first pages of the “TIDE Publication”.
As with recent events that cropt up national analysts, it seems the South-South will produced the best government in Nigeria’s political history despite the categorization of the region as a minority or minor-minority axis of the federation union but this region breeds the intellectuals and golden eggs of Nigeria.
Notwithstanding, the south pole of the world, breeds the best leaders and governments as actuality of the world contemporary political history.
The mandamus of a South-South Presidency in Nigeria, would generate a peacefully, progressive government that will lead Nigeria into global respect and recognition.
Above all, the exercise to the process to actualised the chosen candidate for the Presidency needs to be realised only by the South to South natives, thus, detest imposition by others. As recall to recent times, there have being solicitors from parts of the country with emphasis to the candidacy of Gov.Odili as the best candidate from the South-South axis that could have the national concensus to Aso rock in 2007.
But, it seems these solicitors are encroaching the intelligence of the peoples of the region. Is better to give a space to democracy to be the best judge and allow justice to prevail.
POLITICAL SOUTH
For the meantime, the South-South has qualified contenders equipped with diplomatic excellence, the likes of Pastor Chris Okotie, Pa Anthony Enahoro, Gov Chief Victor Attah of Akwa-Ibom state, Chief E.K.Clark, Chief Ubeku, Chief John Oyegun, Senator David Dafinone, Chief Joseph Wayas, Prof Peter Ekeh, Chief Alex Ibru and lot of others.
However, it is the duty of the citizens of this region to nominate the candidate that will suit their choice to contest the next tenant of Aso Rock, hence we from the South-South region should be allowed with deliberate desires to decide our future through the process of looking for a patriotic native inturn as diplomatic representative of the region but not to imposed by partisanship that would be later teleguided and easily manipulated against peoples wish hence it would be dangerous and ridiculous for a true democracy.
For the meantime, the President of the federation, if endorsed with the mandamus from the South-South region, should bear in mind, the country is automatically his constituency. More so he should be with the proficiency of pragmatic, patriotic with the inept of the Rule of Law likewise Oneness and it Status quo coupled with the Checks and Blances democratic ingredients as a true interpretation of a populist government thus he should be very civil in his mood of governing without the intention of sectionalism or being greedy for wealth. .
However, in spite of his position, his native dogmatism cannot be ruled out. These facts could emanate from social, religious and cultural affiliations hence, it is natural and can’t be eluded because it surpasses nature.
Consequently, it native comportment should not be correlated with the lacking competence of governing.
However, we’re step closer to 2007 but we hope 2006 wont derail the next government ? Subsequently, the domination of our day polity with sycophants and unscrupulous politicians seeking a third term agenda is scaring and threatening to our body polity because the rotational geopolitical regionalism context is being contested in favour of partisanism and continue incumbency of the current dispensation thus might post a threat to the union disintegration or may replicate another vacuum in the democratic system
In the meantime, the Niger Deltans, with civilized history has manifested our wiliness to yield to collective cry thus resulted to the concluded, freed foreign hostages, hence the government should be civil enough by awarding the region with it desperate demands as to pacify and put a final guarantee to the explosive, dramatized situations in the region in barter to total tranquillity of the country’s caricature socio economic situations.
In a nutshell, it is advisable that our central government should attach more protections to the supreme constitution of the 1999 adopted version, thus it should be respected by the governance and not manipulated to suit the incumbent interest as the polluted polity with excess of impeachment of governors etc that now ridicules the integrity of Chief Olusegun Obasanjo government.
Therefore, with synonymy of the speculative elongation of a third-term Presidency with its elective positions should be avoided in the interest of the country and the contemporary democracy of the 21st century of the Nigeria’s reincarnation with the world advancement.
Above all, Mr. President should seek the honourable stand of Mr President Mbeki of South Africa as well as Chief Nelson Mandela, thus, should be bold enough to evacuate the Presidency come May 29 2007.
In the meantime, we seeks the omnipotent names of God, Allah, Olorun, Oghene, Chineke etc to let peace reigns beyond 2007 in our ancestral land of Nigeria..
Good Day ! Salamalay-Kum ! Ma Salaam - NIGERIA.
God Bless.
