The time and situation as of today have presented themselves in a manner that one needs the assistance of the print medium to particularly alert the unsuspecting and harmless Nigerian electorate at this time of our national life when the country’s general elections are at the corner.

It is our knowledge that almost all the more than 50 registered political parties in the country have submitted the names of their candidates for various elective positions slated for April this year to INEC for its own part of the deal.

What is of prime interest to most Nigerians as a common national matter is the presidential candidates. The ruling party, PDP has ‘elected’ Katsina state governor, Umaru Musa Yar’adua as its candidate in the April elections. But it is a known fact that the controversy generated by the imposition of Yar’adua against serious and more capable contenders like Peter Odili, Donald Duke, Jerry Gana, Victor Attah, Ibrahim Babangida, Aliyu Gusau, Abullahi Adamu and Adamu Muazu among others is still fresh in their minds and I am sure they will do everything to scuttle the victory of Yar’adua at the polls.

But as true member of the PDP, I feel that a lot of work has to be done to get to the Promised Land if Yar’adua is to get elected as Nigeria’s President comes April 14, this year. Nigerians, regardless of their party affiliations are not comfortable with Obasanjo’s plan to maintain a leading role in a post Obasanjo Nigeria.

Today, Obasanjo is the Chairman of the Yar’adua/Goodluck presidential campaign team. He is also the life leader of the party. In actual fact, a friend of mine who is still a card carrying member of the PDP but a strong critic of president Obasanjo’s inhuman treatment of Vice President Atiku Abubakar jokingly said ‘this ticket is an Obasanjo/Yaradua/Goodluck ticket’

Even though out of office, Obasanjo wants to maintain a firm grip over the Nigerian state. That informed his ‘wise’ decision to anoint Yar’adua, a stooge as the candidate. That will not be acceptable to Nigerians.

A vote for Yar’adua in the April 2007 elections means a vote for Obasanjo. This by implication means that Nigerians will continue for another four or even 8 years in poverty, joblessness, erratic power supply, bad and deadly roads, poor portable water supply, decline in our health care services, stagnation in our economic growth and insecurity among others. Nigerians are now wiser. They must not mortgage the future of their children and grand children into the hands of a stooge to a dictator.

Ya’radua will if elected be a president that is remotely controlled by Emperor Obasanjo from Otta Farms. Obasanjo must be told that imposition has not worked any where in the world. It had not worked in Africa. Certainly, God will not allow it work in Nigeria.

Nigerians must rise up to this challenge and frustrate the devilish intentions of Obasanjo. He must not have the chance to rule Nigeria again under whatever guise. Nigerians have suffered enough in Obasanjo’s vindictive, tribal, corrupt, all knowing and inconsiderate ruler ship for 8 years. It must come to end now.

Since Vice President Atiku Abubakar dealt a big blow to his tenure elongation plans, Obasanjo has been behaving like a wounded lion out to kill every one who comes his way. Since he came to power in 1999, Nigeria has not made any significant progress in all sectors of its national life.

Nigerians must vote PDP and its candidates out of our political play ground at all levels in the April elections. It is now or never. May God help us out of this mess called Obasanjo anointment all over the place.
