Permit me space in your widely read newspaper to advice Mr. Vice President on why he will not win the Presidential election to lead Nigeria as President.

Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, you will recall that you were the de-facto president when Obasanjo was the ceremonial head of the country. Your duties included, among others, ensuring a federal relationship with the 36 states, including Abuja. You also chaired all the federal committees for national development. You were virtually in charge of every programme for the needed take-off of a greater Nigeria. What did you do?

Mr. Vice President Abubakar, during this time, you forgot the citizens and perhaps, your duties as the de-facto president. You engaged in acquisition of traditional titles across the nation. The Nigerian society was left unguarded! The resultant effect of this on our nation's nascent democracy was the breakout of crises ranging from communal, religious, political, ethnic etc., which is second only to the Nigerian/Biafran civil war of decades ago. It was indeed, a threat to life of Nigerian citizens, which also threatened to paralyse and weaken the federal democratic structures of our society. Your negligence of the state of affairs of our dear country gave the entire world the impression of you, as a failed leader, who is more concerned with your private interests of self gratification rather than the collective interests of the masses.

As a concerned citizen of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, I have a great stake in the future of my country. I wish the dreams of the founding fathers of this nation, and "the labour of our heroes past" to be fruitful. As a citizen, I am concerned who leads me into this future of a great Nigeria, through service of "our fatherland". May I tell you, Mr. Atiku Abubakar, you were tried in this service—to lead Nigeria as Vice President and you failed to give us the desired leadership. We are afraid of your self-seeking style.

My advice to you is simple. Since you could not effectively handle your national assignment as Vice President, but was good at garnering chieftaincy titles across the nation, it is better you now settle down as the Traditional Ruler of Modern Nigeria. At least, one would be sure that, with all the traditional institutions across the country, which found you worthy of one traditional title or the other, can collectively come together and coronate you. Your candidature for the Traditional Headship of Modern Nigeria, making you the custodian of Nigerian cultures and tradition, will be unopposed, as you have already cemented traditional ties with these institutions. After all, you are second to none in the acquisition of traditional titles in the country.

God bless you.

Thank you, Mr. Vice President, for your time.

I remain your citizen,
