Governor Nyako Came With A Psyche Of A Conqueror By Ihas Idriess
My attention has been drawn to the above interview published in Leadership newspaper of 10th August, 2007 by a friend. I normally hate to join issues with people I know little about but the interview and venomous allegations contained within against my governor and people I have in high esteem, left me with no choice as a responsible and law abiding citizen of Adamawa but to answer the author, Although Mr. Mathias Yohanna was introduced in the Interview as former Commissioner of Information of Adamawa State, a very sensitive portfolio you will agree with me, yet little of him is known in the state and also not surprising, nothing about him is online as well, as I spend hours googling his name, without any trace, his only presence online is the interview he granted Leadership newspaper, for it is my policy whenever I read absurd coming from the ‘so called’ big wigs, I take my time to find out more about the authors background, this helps me a lot in trying to understand the type of person I am dealing with and since nothing is forthcoming about Mr. Yohanna, I think I will be correct if I called him a ‘non-entity’ politically, academically and otherwise and believe me this make my little respond to him a bit easy, as I do not have to dwelt on his personality or try to decipher his psyche, rather I will attempt to answer him on the issues he raised.
Although reading the interview it was obvious the major grudge Mr. Mathias have against Murtala Nyako is more or less personal, personal in the sense that he accused governor Nyako of refusing to release the ‘jumbo pay package’ approved to them by the then fleeing Governor, this made it crystal clear that Mr. Mathias was amongst the last set of Commissioners appointed by Boni Haruna, when all reasonable people with integrity in the state, where approached and they all turn down the different appointments to serve in the unpopular government of Boni Haruna in its twilight, and am sure Mathias was among the non-entities that jumped into the van wagon, for the opportunity of having their names added to the list of Commissioners in Adamawa State, and as a form of reward to them the non-entities that grace the offer, Governor Boni approved some unrealistic pay packages for them that made them instant multi-millionaires in just a matter of month. Well, the fact that Nyako refused to honor such nonsense was the main crux of the matter for Mr. Mathias.
The assertion that Murtala Nyako is only fit to be a farm manager rather than governor, made Mr. Mathias as if one who is coming out of a trance or someone coming out of a beer palour, but I wish to take Mr. Yohanna on this and ask what was the highest position held by Boni Haruna before his ascension to power, if my memory served me right, Boni’s highest position was holding the bag of Governor Nyame who was then the Governor of Taraba state as his Personal Assistant (glorified errant boy), So it is quite disheartening for Mr. Mathias to claim that a retired Admiral can not be able to serve as governor, when an errant boy has served for eight years.
Mr. Mathias, also assert that Atiku’s grudge with the people of Adamawa and Yola in particular was the fact that he brought in a Christian minority to rule the state, while he conveniently forgot that since the inception of Adamawa state no governor was of Fulani extraction, Saleh Michika was from Michika and the rest of the governors that rule the state were all military governors and mostly Christians. So, for Mr. Mathias claim that Atiku’s cross with the people of Adamawa was his bringing of Boni is nothing but a myopic and mischievous act, in any case I think Atiku’s choice of Boni has nothing to do with empowering Christians or the minorities, for if indeed Atiku in 1999 wanted to empower the minority and Christians, why then did he failed to take Boss Mustafa, Joel Madaki, Lyn Nathan, Lawrence Ngbale, Ambassador Juta or Bala Takaya and any of the very many other right thinking and independent minded Christians from the so-called minority, who are much more qualified than Boni, and who have all served the state and the country at large in different capacity diligently, rather than just being someone else BOY-BOY… Well, if our so called Ex-commissioner of Information wish to know, Atiku’s intention of choosing Boni is only for selfish reasons as he very well know Boni is nothing more than ‘Mr. Yes Sir, Thank You Sir’ individual, who up to the end of his administration did not believe he was the governor of Adamawa as he always seek approval from Atiku for any action.
Mr. Mathias from the interview alleged that Nyako’s farm embark on massive importation of farm equipments from Germany, it’s a pity somebody from Atiku camp will talk about such issue, am sure if Mr. Mathias will be honest even for a second he will agree that ABTI was a mere hopeless nursery school run by the estranged wife of the Ex-VP, Hajiya Ladi and we all know what is ABTI today, although nobody can remember how much Atiku, Ladi and Boni combined worth before 1999, but its clear that their salaries and allowances in the pass eight years can not and will not be able to build ABTI to its present status. It’s indeed shameless that Mr. Mathias is comparing the eight years of the errant boy with the three months of Nyako.
By the way if Mr. Mathias and his so called other commissioners, Perm. Sec. and advisers that Nyako refused to pay their hard earn salaries as he alleged, know it is their legal right, what is stopping them from going to courts, indeed he knows they have no feet to stand in the eyes of the law, their appointments are all fraudulent and so also the Jumbo Salaries attached.
Although anybody in Adamawa state will agree with me that there is absolutely no ground for comparing errant boy and a retired admiral, but for the sake of the likes of Mr. Mathias, who is blinded with inferiority complex, I will ask; 1. Why was it that for the eight years of Boni, no where in Yola the state capital enjoys portable drinking water? 2. Why was it that its only ABTI and the numerous houses and business of Atiku that enjoy 24hrs power supply prior to the coming of this administration of Nyako? 3. Why was it that no appointment in the state that goes without the blessing of Atiku, who we all know have pathological hatred for the informed and educated, if not for the like of Atiku and Boni who will allow such people like Mathias to serve as commissioner.
Anyway we thank God for Nyako at least his three month into governance in the state we now have running water in the entire state capital, we have also seen appointments of people who are qualified into different fields, we have seen appointment that are not sanctioned by anybody, rather those appointed are purely base on merit. We have also witnessed ex-commissioners who previously because of their linage go about collecting contracts without executing them, now being made to finish the contracts or face the wrath of the law. I challenge Mr. Mathias to call the name of the Ex-commissioner who was given the contract of fencing Yola-water board since 2003, but was only now forced to carry out the contract.
Well, if this is what Mr. Mathias Yohanna referred to as the psyche of a conqueror, I think I am speaking the mind of virtually all Adamawian that we like it that way… if such are conqueror’s I think Iraqis will not forgive Mathias for calling Nyako so. If Nyako in the space of barely three months can achieve what Boni/Atiku combined can not achieve for the state in eight years, let him be controlled by anybody as alleged by Mr. Mathias we don’t mind, as long as he is protecting us from the clutches of vampires and he is performing.
Although from the venomous manner by which Mathias is spouting allegation it is obvious he has lost it upstairs, but I am sure had it being Ribadu were on vendetta mission as he alleged the likes of his master that is still free will have been behind bars. As for the wild allegation against Ribadu’s sister Mr. Mathias should know that the so called car which Mathias can only drive in his dream which he said Nuhu Ribadu gave to his sister is probably too minute in her collection, this is a woman of substance, a seasoned educationist who have make success of her business even without Ribadu, it may interest Mathias to know that Hajiya Zainab have been turning down several appointment from the government of Boni Haruna on principle grounds right from the inception. It’s a pity in his inferiority complex Mr. Mathias could not decipher how a woman can be so successful without being in the corridors of power, yet people like him are nothing but boot lickers.
My advice for Mr. Mathias Yohanna is to either go to court if indeed he believes Nyako is holding his salaries or shut up! The game is over the likes of Atiku and Boni will never hold the state to ransoms ever again. I rest my case.
