Governor Celestine Omehia And The Issue Of 100 Days In Office- A Study In Illusion And A Fallacy! By Chief Eze Chukwuemeka Eze www.newriverstate.com,mediaconsultanttpcorivers_07@yahoo.com
By 6th of
September, 2007, Sir Celestine Omehia the Executive Governor of the rich
oil State of Rivers in Nigeria will join other alleged elected State
Executives all over the country in celebrating their first 100 days in
office as has become customary of political Leaders in this
dispensation. Though the phenomenon or concept of the celebration of 100
days in office by Leaders is not that very clear but record of the issue
of 100 days in the life of political Leaders dates as far back as 1815
when Napoleon was assumed to have spent 100 days in Paris after escaping
from exile and then after the defeat at waterloo, the king came back.
Another major mention of 100 days in office in history was in 1933 when
USA Presidential historian Mr. Richard Nixon recorded the uneventful 100
days of President George Washington. But the most celebrated issue of
100 days in office by a political Leaders was during the presidency of
Franklin Roosevelt of America who initiated a lot of developmental bills
which gave America a new look in terms of quality administration. In
this regard the euphoria and bug of the issue of 100 days in office so
caught up with Sir Celestine Omehia and his cohorts when they could not
believe that the stolen mandate of the Rivers State people could be
theirs just like that the first few weeks of the administration the only
song that seems to be familiar to the Governor and his lieutenants is
the song of 100 days in office and sadly with the 100 days of the
administration which in the eyes of the administration seems afar off
now with us the new song in the mouths of Sir Celestine Omehia and his
cohorts is ‘rain has disrupted all the all the projects we had proposed
to commission during the magical 100 days.
It is very obvious
that Sir Celestine Omehia and his co-travelers (PDP and INEC) as the
army of occupation which they are that violated our inalienable right to
choose our leaders, by forcefully imposing themselves on us during the
April elections, will on 6th September brought out the drums
in the characteristic manner of the Odili’s method of administration to
mark their first 100 days in office. For them, it will be an auspicious
opportunity to remind us, once more, that we are a conquered people. The
administration has already started the inglorious celebration by
embarking on inspection tour of some of its ill-conceived projects which
they continuous reminding us on daily basis they will unfailingly
commission in their unfortunate 100 days in office and knowing very well
that ‘failure’ is their second name they have changed their song to ‘
ho, if not the rain we could have completed these projects for
commissioning in our first 100 days in office’ Now it is the rain they
caused them to live up to their names as ‘failures’ but our people need
not despair so much as the judgment day is very approaching for Sir
Celestine Omehia and his co-travelers as the Election Tribunal and the
Supreme Court are expected to pass their verdicts on this misfortune
distributing administration.
A shameless people
bereft of any qualms of conscience, they will roll out the drums and
spend our patrimony in celebrating the misfortunes they have brought to
our people and will adorn themselves in the finest robes; pop the best
and most expensive champagnes that money can buy and, generally, make
merry and continue in their deceitful manner to make long speeches
without any hope of fulfilling any instead by their acts of commission
or omission continue to bring misery and shame to our State.
But as many other
States of the Federation celebrates one achievement or the other, Sir
Celestine Omehia will actually be celebrating the misfortune he has
brought to our people-
As others celebrate
and enjoys full democratic dividends and democratic environment we in
Rivers State shall be celebrating Semi State of emergency where the
military are in total control of determining when we should wake-up or
go to our homes and conduct ourselves on the streets- what a sad feat
for Omehia to celebrate. As others celebrate we shall be celebrating the
historical birth day bash Sir Celestine Omehia orgainsed for his
political god-father at Abuja while our people were being massacred and
butchered and life long properties of our people destroyed and looted in
Port- Harcourt by those that assisted him to manipulate himself to the
government House. While others will be celebrating meritorious use of
their state fund we shall be celebrating worthless and funny donations
of our hard earned fund to outside organizations and invitation to the
Government of jobless politicians and funny organizations to come to
sing his praises to the detrimental developmental needs of our people.
While others shall be celebrating security and protection of lives and
property we shall be celebrating poverty and kidnapping of our children
less than five years. While others shall be celebrating respect for
their elders we on our own side celebrates the insulting, castigating
and ridiculing of our elders thereby bringing disrupt and odium to our
people and State. While others try to lure and encourage investors to
their States under Omehia we scare and kidnap for ransom those that come
to invest in our State. While others celebrates preservation of their
heritage we shall be celebrating the threat to render our people
homeless without any adequate plans to provide alternative accommodation
for them and finally, while others celebrate freedom of expression in
Rivers State we mourn the caging and the muzzling of the opposition or
those that are perceived enemies of the State.
The above are the
misfortunes we suffer and mourn in Rivers State as our own 100 days in
office of a stooge of a misfortune dynasty that wasted our eight years
of democratic experiment while others celebrate and merry- What a
misfortune, what an illusion and what a fallacy?
