“It is very unfair to expect a politician to live in private up to the statements he makes in public”.

---Somerset Maugham (1874 - 1965)   British writer.

It was last week the Jigawa State governor, Alhaji Sule Lamido was quoted saying that, anybody asking and insisting that, the INEC boss Pro. Maurice Iwu to vacate  from his seat, they should as well ask  the president, governors and other elected offices to relinquish their positions as well, this is because,  they were all voted in, under the supervision of Maurice Iwu. So, governor Lamido is now trying to prove himself that he is a true democrat!

To this respect, Gov Lamido is quite aware that, many States independent electoral commission (SIECOMS) held local government council Elections in the country with a lot of Hi – cups. In many other states, no opposition party got even chairman or councillorship seats this is because of the massive rigging by the ruling party. Violence prevailed in many states, which even led to lost of lives and properties. Truly, the elections generated lots of illusions in the minds of many Nigerians whether democracy has come to stay. Now, people should witness what emperor governors like Lamido is doing in Jigawa State, were he imposed candidates out of the wish and desire of the electorates (Talakawa)during the last February 13th 2010  LGC elections in his state.

In the first place, the Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) of Jigawa State under the administration of Pro. Maurice Iwu and the able leadership (so to say) of Gov Lamido should blame for many reasons. One, the election officers do not get enough training. Two, delay of payments of the election officers after the exercise. Three, some political office holders use to bribe or threaten the L.G INEC officers to dance to their tones, Four, which the most dishearten was the used by (JSIECO) deprived in rejected some strong political parties in the state to participate in the February council elections, which even made opposition parties led by Action congress (Ac) to go court for rejection their forms.

Also the (JSIECO) deprived voters from voting this is because as early as 11:30am voting has stop in some areas in the state because a day before the election materials have arrived, this gave an opportunity to the ruling party to what they wanted, also there were low or poor turnout of the people (electorates) ever had in the history of Jigawa state and because governor Lamido has barricaded other aspirants from going to the state independent electoral commission to purchase forms because Jigawa state government returned the precious local government chairman and their councilors in the state as PDP candidates with out primaries which is beach of Nigerian constitution as well as an effort to wreck democracy  at the grass root in the state.

This issue of Tazarce (continuity) is a great danger to democracy. Now look at what has just happened in Niger Republic. Is it not Tazarce phenomenon that brought about coup in Niger? Please governor Lamido should remember that he is NEPU orient and Late Malam Aminu Kano disciple for that matter! Please! Don’t pollute the Nigerian polity with this Tazarce concept because even you mentor, your PDP her commandant,  Olusegun’s ambition was aborted.

In the final note, what baffled me much is the money that was released for the conduct of that election, about N800m has been earmarked and spent for that election.  Kai! How, when and where will all these monies spent on? Just for that cover up or Nadi (turban) election? EFCC and ICPC your search lights should at least for this purpose still visit Jigawa again. May God guide our leaders alright Amen.
