Kano: Inevitability Of Instability By Mustapha Salisu The clouds of political upheaval are gathering in Kano skies.. The polity is getting hotter by the day as the frustrations and anxieties keep mounting. The political temperature is getting hotter and the masses are getting angrier. The magnitude of impunity and executive rascality are increasing daily sounding more like a fairy tale. This describes the social and political terrain of Kano State just a few days after the take-over of Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso on May 29. His government is fighting everybody: the rich, the royalty, the elites, the judiciary, religious leaders and the poor. Even the Achaba/Okada motor cycles commercial riders are not exempted as the government is imposing a N200 tax levy daily ob them, the petty traders and even the kola nut sellers (Goro) are not exempted! If the Federal Government does not urgently stop Kwankwaso’s madness, it should be prepared for anarchy in Kano and unprecedented turmoil. The Boko Haram insurgency in Borno State will be a child’s play once Kano starts burning considering its huge population and millions of unemployed and frustrated youth! The peace and stability of Kano State are being threatened ironically by the new state administration that is choked by hatred and vengeance. Barely three weeks in existence, Kano is very tense and one can easily smell it in the air. One of the greatest threats to the peace and stability of Kano is emergence of a new TERRORIST organization formed and sponsored by the state government called ASKARAWAN KWANKWASIYA meaning Kwankwaso Militia (POLICE)! They are young men, drug addicts being brainwashed to kill and maim. They are dressed in the PDP colours (Green, White and Red) uniform with red caps indicating they are DANGEROUS as indoctrinated by their philosopher-king Rabiu Kwankwaso! In other words, they are Kwankwaso Police his body guards and killer squads. Their Head Office is right inside the Governor’s office in the Government House beside the Governor’s office. We therefore call on the Inspector General of Police, Hafiz Ringim to proscribe this terror gang before it is too late. Kano is boiling silently and it should be salvaged before it erupts. The Kwankwaso Police is harassing everybody and intimidating the innocent people. They are fashioned along the infamous KALLARE bandits of Gombe State. Another serious source of worry is the emergence of Executive lawlessness exhibited by Governor Kwankwaso when he led a team of his Militia at 1.am and demolished the buildings erected by people allocated plots at Kofar Naisa. Rather than simply revoking the over 850 plots according to the rule of law as those allotted were legally allocated by Governor Ibrahim Shekarau, Kwankwaso chose brigandage, vandalism, savagery and crude uncivilized behavior. At that ungodly hour, they went and personally demolished all the structures on those plots! Why? It was sheer obsession with hatred and envy as all who-is who in Kano State were the beneficiaries. Just wait and watch the mother of legal battles in Kano as over 800 people are planning to sue the state government and stop Kwankwaso and his Kwankwasiya Police vagabonds. Another issue hurting the people and being talked about quietly is the rumored plans by Kwankwaso to humiliate the Emir of Kano Alhaji Ado Bayero. It is strongly rumored that he is planning to depose the Emir. Hence, they are already singing Sabon Gwamna, sabon Sarki (New Governor, new Emir)! In addition, they are also scheming to unnecessarily create two more Emirates in the state. He wants to create an Emirate in Madobi Local Government Area and make his father an Emir! Kano will surely burn to ashes on any attempt to disgrace its Emir Alhaji Ado Bayero for no just reason. His only crime was he conferred the chieftancy title of the Sardauna on former Governor Ibrahim Shekarau sometimes last year! It is believed Kwankwaso was nursing the dream to be the Sardauna of Kano but unfortunately for him, God gave it to Shekarau. Kwankwaso must be stopped to save the innocent Kano people and the highly respected Emir who is over 80 years old! We call on the PDP national leadership to stop Kwankwaso from throwing Kano to anarchy and political brigandage. After enjoying peace and stability for 8 years under Shekarau and his ANPP, the PDP in Kano are now poised to destroy the peaceful coexistence and religious tolerance we enjoyed. Economic prosperity is returning to Kano due to the peaceful environment we lived for 8 solid years. But unfortunately, Kwankwaso is destroying that. Similarly, the Federal Government should be proactive and save Kano from the upcoming mayhem Kwankwaso and his Terror Gang are throwing Kano into. In 8 years there has not been any religious crisis as the people are living peacefully. But now thanks to Kwankwaso, religious bigotry, chauvinism and intolerance are back. Non indigenes are rattled and are sleeping with only one eye closed. Moreover, the Kwankwaso government is plotting to take on the religious leaders in the state head-on by scheming to proscribe the Hisbah Board to appease Chief Olusegun Obasanjo and the American government. It is alleged that he is under the directive of Obasanjo to proscribe the Hisbah Board! He thus recruited some miscreants and drug addicts and named them as Hisbah Kwankwasiyya. The plot is to bastardize the Hisbah Organization by bringing in undesirable elements to takeover its operations. The religious leaders are angry by politicizing a God-prescribed institution. The Malams are very disgusted and have already begun offering special prayers and holding fasting for the fall down of the state government and are already calling for a jihad against the infidels and devils infested state government. Finally, we are sounding very strong words of advice on the Federal Government and its security agencies to wake up to their responsibilities. They should no longer take him for granted as he is on a vengeance mission and would not mind setting the state on fire. The security agencies were said to have advised him not to take law into his hands to demolish the Kofar Naisa plots. But he went ahead with his private police the Askarawan Kwankwasiya at 1.am and vandalized and looted the place. He did not revoke the allocations of these plots as the law prescribed.
