Baby please give me; tonight, tonight,
I’m going crazy; tonight, tonight.
Let me be your maga; tonight,
(be your maga) tonight,
I want to be your maga; tonight,
(be your lover) tonight.
Verse 1
Tell me what you want,
I just want to know your need,
Cos the way you dey touch the body,
I like the way you dey do the body,
Make me want to dey gummy body, gummy body, Okay.
Oya limpopo,
Baby make we go limpopo,
Cos you know the koko,
So make we go limpopo,
Oh yeah, tonight,
oh tonight.
The original title of this admonition was originally 'the clowns
ahead 2015'. But I had to adjust a bit, as I listened to the above
song by a Nigerian artiste, and watched as our president swaged to
the beats before giving his epic speech during his party’s special
convention.
The Nigerian politician is an expert in his own type of mathematics
where 2 plus 2 never gives 4 on the contrary, it could yield as much
as 6, 7 and 8, while in many cases you may not be able to retrieve
one. Our politicians lie with straight faces and bother less about
what the people think. In this clime, the politician learns the art
of lying as a skill, he is required to lie as a principle and he
does it even to the admiration of the devil and without a heart. So
they play politics with health, education, water, roads,
agriculture, transport, they conceive their own gods and sometimes
it is difficult book marking them from local touts.
Now to the clowning proper, I have watched the trek towards 2015 and
the entire events. Have we gone this road before, certainly we have,
what was the result--same difference. To now expect change is an
abuse of common sense.
Do we have an opposition in Nigeria? No, painfully, what we have is
a gathering of ex-this, and that, former them, and later they. A
bunch of men and a few women not any different from the group they
seek to replace.
How can a PDM already fractioned at birth be the succor, how does a
party that sacks, suspends, expels, re-admits at will be better. A
party that holds two primaries, one aired on NTA, another on AIT…
How does redemption lie in a group of touring governors, I listened
to the why we are taking over PDP from ‘PDP’ speech of the Atiku,
and G-whatever group, and they said nothing new, it wasn’t about the
people, only how they have been schemed out by a ‘sharper’, smarter,
and power-holding group. They just have lost out in the chance to
chop, that is why the whole movement, no ideology, the term
progressives, just a paper term.
In same PDP fashion, if Tinubu is not appointing family members here
and there Rochas is doing same appointing his sister as
'one-thing-some-thing-domestic-adviser'.
Al-Makura conveniently told us his government dashed his son
N20million. Common sense, my father should have been a governor too.
His excuse was after all, as a businessman he could have expended
over a billion on the soiree.
When will we have men that are out to serve, no kerosene, gas or
water well, shares in blue, red or green chip companies, just men
with service at heart.
APC chieftain told us last week there were crooks in the party but
we need not worry. A party that according to Tom Ikimi has about 11
PDP governors romancing or courting; should be one that Nigerians
are weary of.
Between the APC and PDP, is there any generic difference, other than
seeking control, we are treated to paper tigers, sweet sounding
rhetoric, what difference do they present. Lai, Rotimi VS Okupe,
Abati, while Nigerians are in anguish.
Nigerians want change, but change to what from to what. We are
saddled with a group of clowns; common sense deficiency is
widespread from the villa in Abuja to the village in Kagoro.
I end with this fable, a man was passing the elephants, he suddenly
stopped, confused by the fact that these huge creatures were being
held by only a small rope tied to their front leg. No chains, no
cages. It was obvious that the elephants could, at anytime, break
away from their bonds but for some reason, they did not.
He saw a trainer nearby and asked why these animals just stood there
and made no attempt to get away. “Well,” trainer said, “when they
are very young and much smaller we use the same size rope to tie
them and, at that age, it’s enough to hold them. As they grow up,
they are conditioned to believe they cannot break away. They believe
the rope can still hold them, so they never try to break free.”
The man was amazed. These animals could at any time break free from
their bonds but because they believed they couldn’t, they were stuck
right where they were.
Like the elephants, Nigerians go through life hanging onto a belief
that we cannot do something, the ruling party is terrible; the
opposition is an abridged version of terrible, but we accept it like
that.
Sadly like those elephants there is just something about us that is
just not right or that we are not getting right, we all acknowledge
that there is a problem but we simply cannot stick to an all purpose
solution, so round and round in circles we go, tied by ropes
Politicians that claim on one hand that their people wants them to
serve yet they break the bank vault, sell their birthrights to a
godfather and promise heaven on the road to hell. Interestingly when
the becoming becomes unbecoming we are witnesses of the end product
and they successfully keep us busy with analysis, which do little in
changing the fact on ground.
They keep looking for avenues to explore the masses, not that they
have to look far because we give them quite a number of them and so
they openly exhibit gross greed, use our collective sweat to secure
the good life and not blink an eyelid. Look at Nigerians celebrating
APC, PDM, NPDP, and you can only smile if you know the game, because
as usual these politicians have us where they want us---We remain
their maga, for how long, they continue to Limpopo us—only time will
tell.
