Why Obasanjo Must be Given a Second Term

Nothing in the last eighteen months, of unprecedented  messianic performance, brightened my day and raised my spirit, to the realm of happiness, than the front page lead in the New Nigerian of Monday December 11 instance. To the glory of Nigerians, who have been enjoying the wonderful fruits and dividends of democracy, under President Obasanjo, his high performing minister of works, Chief  Tony Anenih, who also double as his campaign director, let us know, for the avoidance of doubt, that come 2003,  Mr. President would, again, enter the political boxing ring to knock out any other contender for the Aso Rock seat. Good news. I was very over joyed when I read the story. It suited my spirit.  I felt good that our God- sent messiah and saviour would, again, redeliver us for yet another four years after 2003. What more could gladden the heart and mind. We must thank Allah for His mercies, for giving us the opportunity to, once again, put Obasanjo back on seat, whether or not Sunday Awoniyi, the Sardauna Kekere, likes it.

As I was savouring the aroma of the story, with great delight and mirth fullness, my attention was attracted to ThisDay of the same instance. In its own front lead, there was that “eaglet” governor, Orji Kalu, ranting that Obasanjo should stop thinking of a second term: his reason being that Mr. Messiah Knowall has not achieved anything in the past 18 months, and that instead of thinking about a second term Mr. President should be thinking of resigning now on account of total failure. Just hear that!

With due respect to the Governor, I must say that he is one of those who has been criticizing Obasanjo for poor performance. This is too bad and very unwarranted. I make bold to say that contrary to his Excellency, President Obasanjo has been recording unprecedented success in failure and drawbacks since coming to power some 18 months ago. Permit me to enumerate some of these failed achievements, even just for the record

1.    First of all failure to record success is in itself a remarkable and resounding achievement, in nothing, which no Nigerian leader before Obasanjo ever recorded. This is one of his greatest achievements in failure and I hope Governor Kalu would not deny this under oath. He just can’t.

2.    Secondly, his major pre-occupation, in fighting the National Assembly to finish, which was one reason why we gave him our votes, has been partially successful except for the “naughty boys” in the lower house who do not want him to score 100% success in this regard. So we have to blame them for his failure here but certainly not him. Attempts at reducing NASS to a toothless weak dog must certainly be appreciated by the Senate, Okadigbo and Na’Abba.

3.    It would be very uncharitable for the Abia number one citizen to claim ignorance of President Obasanjo’s tremendous success in marginalizing the entire former Eastern Region. If he is not aware of this, at least he has seen what Mr. President has done to Odi, making it a rubble of a new city in shambles. What is more remarkable than this, which Kalu doesn’t want to acknowledge.

4.    The Igbos must show appreciation, at least for  the number of their sons in military command positions and in the National Security Council. They should also show appreciation that while supporters of MASSOB are being chased all over the place, for re-demanding for Biafra, the poor chaps of OPC, who have been demanding for an Oduduwa Republic, have been having sound sleep. No one dares  touch them. Again, for the murder of one priest, the Bakassi boys are being rounded up while OPC leaders, whose followers murdered about 600 “Northern Jews”, in Lagos, recently, are being, set free. Can Kalu say that these are not achievements? Discrimination is certainly a great achievement and we all know that Mr. President has been recording high score here. Nobody can deny this.

5.    More remarkably is the growing voluminous strength of the naira from a mere N82 to the dollar in 1998, to a robust N120 now! Look at the great leap forward and somebody is saying that we will not honour Mr. President with a second term, even on account of this messianic miracle, ala the miracle preachers.

6.    Then the factories are now performing below 30% except Obasanjo farms which Mr. President, kindly revealed to us that it has been recording 60% success since he came to power, as against others, which have been closing down. Obasanjo Farms is the success story of the economy in the last 18 months. Great. Farm of wisdom.

7.    All the roads in Abia State, nay, the entire Eastern State, have been beautifully untarred, courtesy of Chief Anenih, and some one is complaining that this is not a success story worthy of a second term without opposition. Ekwueme wouldn’t buy this.

8.    Since Obasanjo came to power, NEPA has been supplying us with charcoal-black-outs day in day out. Never was the place so excellent in supplying black out power! At least Governor Kalu has admitted that his own official residence gets almost 24 hours of NEPA  charcoal daily. What is more an achievement than this, that should not be rewarded with a decent return to Aso Rock? Kalu must answer this question very truthfully and sincerely.

9.    Up here in the North, farmers have been too happy with the withdrawal of fertilizer subsidy, a policy that would ensure more food for the country in scantiness. The farmers have vowed that for making it very difficult for them to get fertilizer and for opening our markets to American food products, which would push them out of the market, they will die voting for the President again, so as to make them more poor. Correct. Good talk.

10.   The market has been over flooded with petroleum products in scarcity. No fuel, no diesel, no kerosene – just nothing. This is a great plus for a person seeking for re-election and it must not apply differently to Mr. President. His record in supplying us these products has been so tremendously poor and hopeless that we must thank him with a resounding re-election. This we must ensure so that he would continue to flood the market with no fuel, no water, no good roads, no light, no economic prosperity plus plenty insecurity. We need these nothings. Oh yes, we do.

11.   And this brings us to another point. Obasanjo administration, in some instances, has been deliberately  generating violence all over the place so much so that we need him back on seat in order to continue living under the Nazi terrorism of the OPC variations. It would be good to re-elect him so that insecurity would continue to blossom to our delight. We have been getting quite a lot of this since he took over and we have been very happy about it. So, more of it

12.   As earlier noted, discriminatory practices were never in short supply in the past 18 months. Indeed, it has since been raised to the level of state policy. In order to get more supply, we need Obasanjo back in 2003. Very sure of that.

13.   Those of us who delight in continuously being butchered by the Nazi OPC and want the terrorists to continue doing so know the right candidate to vote for in 2003. I bet you that we know who would guarantee more mayhem in the hands of the lunatic terrorists.

14.   Having committed about 25 impeachable offences; having been seeking to impose dictatorship on us and having noticed that government officials no longer respect court orders, except those that favour them, it is our cardinal duty to bring back Mr. President so that we would continue to live under full dictatorship in civilian clothes. We have been enjoying this. Quite a lot. Yes.

15.   By the authority of Mr. President, his attorney general and the chairman of NDLEA, the Americans were given permission to abduct a Nigerian citizen, Lanre Shittu, a Lagos car dealer, while his case  was still pending, in court! Their words are law if not greater than the constitution. So, a US Airforce plane was brought to Nigeria and flew Shittu out of the country. Simply put, a Nigerian citizen was sold in to semi slavery by his own President and officials to their American friends. Remember that the appointment of the NDLEA chairman was cleared with the CIA before announcement! See that. Recall also how they imported a Swiss judge in order to sell Mohammed Abacha into judicial slavery. These are good for us: to be less citizens in our country and if we need more, and I believe we do, we must then make the coast clear for Mr. President in 2003. At least more Americans would be coming abducting us and more Swiss judges would be around to try us in prison using Swiss's laws. It is good to be a stooge of foreigners. Very good.

16.   Under Obasanjo, it is a crime for Na’Abba and Okadigbo to engage in approving N155 million through anticipation but legitimately perfect for him to approve N38 billion, N12 billion, N2.8 billion and N60 million respectively through the same method. Oh yes. It is simple.  Unlike him neither Okadigbo nor Na’Aba is a messiah. Such self righteousness is good for our polity and for sure when re-elected he would give us more. Be rest assured. He  will never disappoint us here. Knows the game of double standard.

17.   Still under him, it is not a crime to bribe House members with N360 million in order to remove their speaker. Messiahs are not subject to committing crimes you know, and indeed we all know. So back in power in 2003, more of our resources would be spent through corrupt inducement of legislators in order to get them remove those he doesn’t  want their ugly faces. We therefore need him for such corrupt indulgences. Let he who doesn’t want corruption in high places stand up. Yes, the media. Silence is the word.

18.   President Obasanjo succeeded in recovering N100 billion from the Abachas, whoever they are, and he has succeeded more in not telling us what he has done with the money. Furthermore, he succeeded in auctioning the landed properties of the Abachas, Useini and Gwarzo, but has never succeeded in telling us the status of the money realized. If we want more of such successful failures, then we must join the Obasanjo re-election train

19.   Under Obasanjo, American troops are all over the place. They are in control of the NDLEA. Foreigners are his chief investment advisers; the IMF people have taken over the economy. Simply put Nigeria has never been more colonized after colonization. This is one of the success stories of the Obasanjo era. For those of us who love the Americans and the IMF people more than ourselves, kudos if they team up with the re-election train.

20.   For sure they will be travelling around the globe 45 times in 18 months, consuming N10.9 billion instead of the N2.4 billion budgeted. Good resource management through wastages.

21.   More importantly, Nigerians would be guaranteed non-implementation of budgets more than ever before, once the failures are returned to power. If he can so refuse to do so in the first term, even as he wishes to re contest, God knows what he will do if returned in 2003; failure to implement provisions of budgets has been one of his greatest achievements, and sure we want more of unimplemented budgets. Then re-elect the messiah, for bad.

22.   There are several other reasons why we must return Obasanjo in 2003. Failure is one of them; incompetence is another; lack of respect for the rule of law and due process is the third; discrimination is yet another; growing insecurity is also there; insincerity also makes the list; divide and rule comes in; creeping Nazism is not left out; tribalism is chief among them so is favouratism, lack of faith in trust and promise; high level corruption and several more. He succeeded in providing all of these in the last 18 months and they are excellent enough to warrant a second term. Governor Kalu is, therefore, wrong in saying that Obasanjo has not achieved anything since he took over. He achieved everything negative to our own misglory. May we see 2003.
