A New Year, New Mind? By Leonard Karshima Shilgba

How can an enlightened mind justify the shutting down of public universities in Nigeria for more than eight (8) months? How does this benefit the students or the university system? I think the National Universities Commission (NUC), which has the overwhelming statutory responsibility to manage and oversee federal universities, must sit up to stop such and similar academic compromises henceforth: Details

Northern Nigeria and the Inevitable Transition. By Adamu Tilde

The truth of the matter is that Nigeria's Muslim North must arrest its unbridled race of producing 'needless' number of children; this in addition to stepping up to the challenge of being responsible to the ones already around. Traditional, religious, and political stakeholders must brace up for the challenge of forcing the bitter pill of birth control down the throats of the population. No economic growth can be achieved with an uneducated, unskilled, and idle population. Details

Is the North ready to end banditry and kidnapping? By Prof Abdussamad Umar Jibia

But grey-hair or not, when shall these things come to an end? And who are these bandits? Are they Hausa, Yoruba, Ibo, Fulani or CAN? The problem of banditry in Northern Nigeria has defied solution because of the high level of hypocrisy involved in the discussions about the identity of this criminal type. Details

Why are the Igbo Paranoid? By Tochukwu Ezukanma

It is also the same inherent limitations of the people that make it impossible for many Igbo to see Nnamdi Kanu for what he really is and the danger his neo-Biafranism portends for Ndigbo. Nnamdi Kanu is a con-artist building his financial empire at the detriment of the Igbo, and his Biafran lunacy may spell the doom of the Igbo in Nigeria.Details

In a characteristic manner of this government, the day has passed and no implementation of just one of its promises. They however want ASUU to suspend the strike based on their usual and fathom promises. They have forgotten they are products of these intellectuals from the ivory towers. Details

Study Notes on Nigeria’s Youth Revolt. By Edwin Madunagu

Suppose these minimum objectives have not been met, would the EndSARS protest be in vain? I asked my female compatriot. She responded: “Those objectives failing, then let it at least be that notice has been served regarding the masses’ capabilities and readiness to ensure that going forward cannot be business as usual.” Details

Nigeria: Situational Tribalists And A Naďve Populace. By Ugochukwu Ejinkeonye

The most painful thing is that while the hungry and haggard masses are out there fighting each other, the politicians whom they wrongly assume is their champion is behind closed doors negotiating a better deal for himself. Once he has been settled satisfactorily, he would come out and tell his people to halt the hostilities. He may let a few crumbs fall to them, that is, those who did not die during the conflicts. Hungry and Angry: Youth Can Only Be Temporarily Subdued or Suppressed. By Farouk Martins Aresa

When masses are fed up, it only takes the last straw to break the camel's back as we saw in Morocco where one unemployed graduate sparked revolt. Recovery becomes hard and long resulting in the rich eating one another as the poverty stricken cold hands reach into privileged class and grip those that refuse to listen to the voices of reasonable masses. It happened in Lebanon, Somalia, Sudan before it got to Libya (made worse by imperialist opportunists). Yet, greed for loot and power, blind Nigeria’s stubborn Vagabonds in Power. Details

Tribute to late Hassan Wayam (1945-2020). By Nura Jibo MRICS

One unfortunate incident that happened in Nigeria in the year 2015 was the election violence that made Hassan Wayam lost one of his heirs, Aliyu (Danladi) Hassan Wayam. Amidst military curfew and lockdown in Zaria, Hassan out of concern sent Danladi to see if the curfew was loosened so that he could buy them foodstuff and restock. The soldiers spotted Danladi out and shot him in the head. It was this pathetic scenario that made Hassan Wayam highly depressed and unforgiving to Nigeria’s Goodluck Ebele Jonathan’s Government. The rest is history! Details

President Comes, Presidents Goes, Nation Remains. By Anthony Akinola

However, patriotic Nigerians must always seek to protect the sovereignty of their nation at all times. There would be those who would want to exploit a crisis situation to achieve unconnected objectives. The call for Buhari to resign may be unnecessary. The agitation for the breakup of Nigeria cannot be sustained on the platform of the current crisis, not least because police corruption, extortion and brutality, have been a national malaise. Of course, all religions have failed our nation in this. Details

#EndSARS: How We Came to the Sorry State. By Abachi Ungbo

Our leaders simply buried their heads in the sand. They turned deaf ears and cast blind eyes. They  carried on with blissful indifference as the dam was recording incremental rise. The alarm rang out stridently yet couldn’t awaken them to the disaster that was shaping up. The breaches were in plain sight. Finally, the dam gave way, releasing its content with fury and carrying everything along its path. Today, the land is pervaded with tears, sorrow and regret! Details
